NYPD Looking For 2 People Who Attacked and Robbed Woman in Central Park

By Gus Saltonstall

Police are searching for two people who attacked and robbed a woman in Central Park earlier this month, NYPD said on Monday.

A 51-year-old woman was walking through Central Park near the new Davis Center around 2:30 p.m. on November 5, when two people on a bike rode up behind her and hit her on the back of the head, police said. The duo then forcibly removed her headphones, and fled the scene, police added.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene, NYPD said.

Here are the photos of the suspects that police released to the public on Monday.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

This is a city with 8 million people. If you want to run it like North Korea good for you but that’s not going to change the simple fact that we will have crime and unless you want to live alone marooned on a desert island it’s something that we can deal with. The NYPD is bigger than the armed forces of some countries. It’s doing a good job. This wouldn’t even make the news when I was a kid. The incoming mayor isn’t going to lead to any catastrophe. He just wants to improve things like how we deal with the mentally ill and homeless who aren’t even criminals.

They are. Compared to the 80s crime was so high that incidents like this wouldn’t even move the numbers. Now it’s so low relative to then a handful of crimes look significant, which to the victims they are but overall do not indicate that there’s significant risk for the citizens. There’s more people in Central Park on any given day than reside in entire counties up north. It’s safe.

I can’t believe this is what New York has come to—a woman getting attacked in broad daylight in Central Park, of all places, at 2:30 in the afternoon! Seriously, what’s going on? If people can’t even feel safe in a spot that’s supposed to be one of the city’s main attractions, where can they? Honestly, it feels like things are just getting worse, and it makes you question what’s really being done to keep everyone safe. It’s upsetting and honestly pretty scary for anyone who lives here or just wants to enjoy the city—and please, spare me the so-called statistics.

What New York has come to? How long have you lived here? I was mugged twice in broad daylight in the 1970’s once at knife point. This is a big city. It’s a helluva lot better now than back then.

Crime is definitely up in Manhattan. I don’t care what they say with their fake statistics.
I was “sucker punched” so hard on my back on Sunday, November 16th at 1:45pm in broad daylight on a busy street, First Ave at East 75th Street. A mentally disturbed very tall young guy ran up behind me and “wham”!!! I saw stars. He was screaming something unintelligible.
He then went on to smash his fist into others on the street. These crimes go unreported, or if reported and no one was seriously injured they just drop it. I called the police. Nothing got done. CRIME IS UP!!! BE CAREFUL!!!

Is this a joke? You couldn’t go into Central Park in the 1970s at any time of day. If e-bikes were licensed and carried plates, ANY one riding one could be stopped and frisked. Vote for Priscilla’s Law! And get them OUT of Central Park altogether.

Dismissing legit public safety concerns by mentioning conditions from 50 years ago is ridiculous. They aren’t going to give out licenses and plates. They aren’t going to stop and frisk anyone. The new Mayor isn’t going to do that. There will be less law enforcement. . You think they will stop and frisk illegals on bikes in the park? They want to close Rikers and reduce city jail space by 65 percent. That means they stop arresting people.

Stop and frisk was a major violation of constitutional and human rights. More Black males were accosted by LE than there were Black males. We have the largest prison population of any democracy also and in NYC we did a pretty lousy job overall of diversion, especially for young people.

People who commit violent felonies aren’t released. And the NYPD certainly does want to catch criminals. Bragg just thinks if you pee on a subway platform society isn’t well served by treating you like a felon.

If u arena teen in NYC these sorts of crimes will result in literally no ramifications.
The Raise the Age Law lets anyone under age 18 escape any incarceration for all but the most serious crimes. If it’s not a felony resulting in serious physical harm they’re tried in family court.

Punching someone in the face, beating them up is basically a freebie.

This isnt helping anyoke including the kids, who eventually will commit a serious felony and likely wind up in prison for killing someone.

Some on the NY Council want to raise the age again, to 25.

I wondered how long it would take someone to post this. I’ve been robbed twice and I’ve never had headphones/earbuds or even a phone or a purse with me. How about not blaming the victim in any shape or form and focusing on the criminals who do commit these acts of violence? And if you think it’s just a ride by/grab then check out this video and imagine this happening to you or someone in your family (because it seems that no one else gives a damn otherwise). It’s from 2022, so there you go…nothing has changed.

Thank you, I agree wholeheartedly. It is not “blaming the victim” to warn that wearing headphones and earbuds, and counseling people to STOP staring at their phones in public, is COMMON SENSE. It’s dangerous to be so oblivious to what is going on around you, and adds to antisocial behavior, to everyone’s detriment. It is stupid and pathetic to conduct oneself in this manner. Look around! Listen! Pay attention!

I grew up on the Upper West Side during the 70s. AT ALL TIMES, you should always know:
1. Who’s in front of you
2. Who’s on your right
3. Who’s on your left
4. Who’s behind you

Not meaning to “blame the victim,” but people who wear headphones in public and people who focus on texting for more than a few seconds are opening themselves up to be robbed.

I agree. No matter where you are in NYC, stay aware of your surroundings. In the 70s we had eyes on all four sides of our heads. People complain that crime is up don’t seem to know or remember what the real mean streets were actually like. It isn’t the pandemic or BLM. It’s just the way things are now.

If e-bike riders’s bikes had licenses the police would know exactly who the perpetrators were immediately. But somehow that seems to be beyond the abilities of both the state and the city, neither of which has passed Priscilla’s Law which would do just that. The #1 job of government is to keep the public safe. Not so much when large corporations want e-bikes unlicensed and are working to do that through their support of quasi-lobbying groups like Trans Alt.
If you want to change this call your state assembly leaders and tell them to support Priscilla’s Law!

The Central Park Conservancy wants carriage horses banned while funding expanded speedways for e-bikes. Who could have imagined that the CPConservancy would develop a Robert Moses Raceway, the antithesis of its mission to insure a sanctuary within the City. Expect crimes using weaponized e-bikes targeting vulnerable pedestrians to skyrocket but these crimes will be underreported in manipulated stats.

And the CPC seems intent on destroying the lawns through lack of soil maintenance.

This leads to trees being uprooted in a stiff wind. Happened in Riverside Park back a couple of years.

Let’s also not forget that the CPC can’t be bothered to enforce the rule against bikes and “bikes” on pedestrian paths — this is in addition getting rid of red lights on the loop.
