So far this year, one of the biggest stories on the Upper West Side has been the closing of Silver Moon Bakery, the longtime favorite at West 105th Street and Broadway. The fact that this news came just months after the closing of Absolute Bagels, in December 2024, made it even tougher for many locals to swallow.
But it’s not all bad – a replacement for Silver Moon is in the works, and dozens of other businesses have opened, popped up, renovated, or expanded in the neighborhood over the past six months.
To help you keep track, below is an alphabetical list (with links) of every opening we’ve covered so far in 2025. This list also includes businesses that are planning to open soon.

Don’t forget the Mermaid inn re-opening!
I’m betting that half of the opening soon ones will never open. Some of those locations have changed signs every year or so but remain vacant.
It would have been nice to mark those not yet open in the same way you note the moving and renovating ones.
I’d also appreciate a cross street in addition to what Newbie is saying. It’d be great if we could have a hashtag that you add to each entry so we could do a search on the page to find coming soon versus just opened versus just closed or now closed.
