Abigail’s, a Southern-California-inspired restaurant, is opening in March at the corner of West 102nd Street and Broadway. Street Taco, which was previously at this location, will share the kitchen and remain available for delivery only. Both Street Taco and Abigail’s are under the umbrella of the Fox Lifestyle Hospitality Group, which backs other restaurants and bars in New York City including The Parlour Room, The Rag Trader (no relation to WSR), and White Oak Tavern, among others. Abigail’s will be led by chef Ash Fulk, who grew up in California and now lives on the Upper West Side. Fulk is a “self-taught locavore” (a person whose diet consists principally of locally grown food), according to his bio on Fox’s website, and has appeared on the TV show ‘Top Chef’. He previously worked at Trestle on Tenth, an American restaurant in Chelsea that has since closed. (Thanks to Robert for the tip.)
Züri-Coffee, a Swiss-style cafe whose name refers to Zürich, Switzerland, is opening at 2218 Broadway on the corner of West 79th Street on March 8th. To mark the opening day, the cafe will be giving out free coffee and Swiss chocolates. Sev Sherifi, one of the co-owners, was born and raised in Switzerland. His business partner, Grisilda Halili, works in commercial real estate and has lived on the UWS for two years. “We’re going to use Austrian coffee from [the Vienna-based brand] Julius Meinl, and [serve] Swiss chocolate and Bircher muesli, which is Swiss oatmeal basically.” she told WSR. “There’s nothing like it in Manhattan.” The space, which used to be a Blank Street Coffee, is small but they plan to have some indoor and outdoor seating.
One Bite Omakase, at 411 Amsterdam Avenue between West 79th and 80th streets, had its “soft opening” on February 20th and reservations are now available through Resy (the restaurant is closed on Mondays). In Omakase dining, the sushi chef chooses the items that are served, which are presented in small portions directly over a counter. One Bite’s countertop has 12 seats and its 13-course meal is set at $89 per person. Its two chefs, Johnny and Jason, previously worked at high-end Japanese restaurants including Masa and Blue Ribbon.
The Starbucks at the corner of West 63rd Street and Broadway has closed temporarily. A sign on the storefront window says that “we are working to re-open our store as quickly as possible.” The nearest open locations are at West 59th Street and Columbus Avenue and West 66th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Recently, the West 75th Street and Broadway Starbucks location also closed for renovations, with plans to reopen in the fall. The Starbucks at Columbus and 81st has been “temporarily closed” for the last few months. (Thanks to Ian for the tip.)
Savory Marketplace has signage up at the corner of West 88th Street and Broadway. It will have a gourmet menu, including sandwiches, salads, wraps, as well as smoothies, juice, coffee, and more. The space was previously a TD Ameritrade bank. We’ll post more information when it’s available. (Thanks to Steven for the tip.)

What will make the sandwiches, salads and wraps at Savory Marketplace “gourmet” other than just using that word in their advertising?
The price, of course.
That 102nd Street corner hasn’t been happening since Mama Mexico got busted.
That Starbucks at 63rd and Broadway was open for weeks with a C rating. I couldn’t understand why people were still going there. Once I understand if you’ve already ordered on the app but when you see the big C in the window why not just walk a coupke extra blocks next time?
It’s coffee and microwaved foods. What could go wrong?

Microwaved food might not be heated enough to kill pathogens.
Coffee served from a place without proper cleaning protocols in place can also make you sick.
Excited for the new restaurant Abigail’s — will be great to have a quality chef-driven restaurant in the neighborhood!
The Starbucks at 73rd and Columbus was closed today as well. Wonder what’s going on?
I want to know how the chef practices being a “locavore” living and working on the UWS. Does he only find things grown at Zabars? Does he forage at Westside Market? Does he find the freshest local fruits and veggies at the Fruit Man at 86th and Broadway? 🙂
Or graze with the goats in Riverside Park??
The idea of a”Southern-California-inspired restaurant” makes this crusty old New Yorker just a bit nervous. Will it be more about the “experience” than the food? Will the waitstaff be on rollerskates or wear really short shorts? I’m just dying to find out what it all means.
Perhaps like Barbuto
What’s opening on the NE corner of 79th Str and Broadway?
They pulled out. Zabar’s, who owns it, had a falling out with them, PC. Richard is not moving in. You know they’re family related.
IIRC, PC Richard was going to relocate to this space from its current location
Anyone knows when Kossar’s on the corner of WEA and 72nd is opening? They’ve been “Coming Soon” for the longest time.
WSR’s most recent update was “Spring 2024”.
They told WSR a few months ago it would be Spring of this year. They have workers in there every day.
I suspect opening will be late spring. I pass by there every day and there is lots of work going on. Not only are they using the old diner space, but they have knocked down the walls and expanded into the space next door. My understanding from speaking with someone in the building is that the space needed a lot more work than anyone anticpated!
Any word on HMART????
I can hardly wait for Zuri-coffee to open! Julius Meinl coffee is the best! Hope they have some Austrian goodies to go with the coffee…:-)
