Lincoln Center turns 60 this May and to celebrate it’s holding a block party on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The party will take place on the Lincoln Center campus and include free activities and performances from the various organizations that make up Lincoln Center. More details are expected to be released soon.
The Lincoln Center groundbreaking was held by Dwight Eisenhower on May 14, 1959 in front of 12,000 people.
The West 80th Street Block Association congratulates Lincoln Center on their 60th anniversary in May and our full support as we celebrate our 50th anniversary in October.
12,000? Was Trump counting?
I was thinking the exact same thing. LOL
Trump was just learning how to mis-count at that time.
HA!

I love learning the history of New York’s neighborhoods. I love the connection of San Juan Hill to “West Side Story” …
Does anybody know which direction is in the camera’s view?
What a great photo! I live two blocks from there and loved reminiscing what it must have been like in those days. I wasn’t born yet but loved seeing how great our neighborhood already was promoting the arts! Happy 60th! We will be there on May 4th!
