White powder was found in the lobby of the Post Office at 215 West 104th Street on Friday night, but after a Hazmat team was called to the site authorities deemed it harmless. “It wasn’t anything threatening,” an NYPD spokesman said.
White powder at UWS post office. Is that a containment vessel? All the tv cameramen are across street shooting idle fire trucks. #nopresspass #citizenshavebetteraccess pic.twitter.com/wYPg8nNMrJ

The powder was found around 6:30 p.m inside the building, according to an NYPD spokesman. It was found in a piece of mail. A Hazmat team was sent to the site and one witness said there were “dozens” of emergency vehicles at the scene.

Initially, an NYPD spokesman said one person was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but another NYPD source later said the person was evaluated on scene.
Glad you’re on top of this! We walked past the commotion on the way home and I’ve never seen so many silent fire trucks and ambulances. It was weird.
Saw it all from window with oncredible footage. Amazong FDNY and NYPD.
What is amazing about the FDNY and NYPD doing their job? I’d rather judge their performance by how they stand up to scrutiny when they’re not responding to a call.
The postal employees at Cathedral station open letters & packages all the time. It is a known problem.
