Tuesday’s snowstorm wasn’t all it was cracked up to be — less than a foot of wind-driven sleet rather than two feet of cold dry powder. That didn’t stop some hardy souls from venturing out into the muck.
Also, someone sent in a poem:
Stella has arrived in all her glory
Arrayed in white, serene but awesome
Delivered the foot she’d promised
And the snow plows haven’t stopped
Stella!
What a lovely name that is!
Doesn’t she sound warm and friendly?
Maybe to some, can’t think of many
Don’t wish to say anything rude
But make no mistake, she’s brutal cold
Can you tell a woman by her name?
“Global warming?”, she heckled
“The jury’s still out, they’ll take a while
But get used to this, life is volatile!”

Some good pictures, thanks.
Not much of a snow day but what’s up with the taxi/uber/lyft guys going down the street without snow tires. Seen some of these guys stuck in the middle of Broadway.
Didn’t there used to be a law requiring snow tires or chains on days designated as snow emergency days? I seem to remember red signs on lamp posts to that effect from my NYC youth.
Latin Ode to Stella
Mica, mica, parva Stella,
Miror quaenam sis tam bella.
Super terra in caelo,
Alba gemma splendido.
Mica, mica, parva Stella,
Miror quaenam sis tam bella.
Mildred Alpern, may I reproduce this poem?
