Do you think your pooch could be a therapy dog?
Are you looking for new opportunities to visit with your therapy dog? Join us at the 3rd Annual Therapy Dog Open House.
Tuesday March 21st 6-8:30 pm
ASPCA Corporate Offices
520 8th Avenue @ 35th St.
Register here.
Come learn how you and your beloved canine can make a difference in your community.
Therapy dog teams are working in more and more environments – hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing facilities, libraries, in schools and on college campuses. Every day there are more opportunities.
If your dog is highly social with people, good in new situations and knows basic obedience you may have a therapy dog.
Come and meet therapy dog teams and learn about their experiences. Meet representatives from over 20 facilities who will discuss volunteer opportunities. Listen as speakers from New York’s therapy dog community discuss:
- Is My Dog a Good Candidate? Jane Kopelman of All About Dogs and consultant to Memorial Sloan Kettering Caring Canine Program.
- New Opportunities with Underserved Youth: Audrey Hendler, Director of A Fair Shake for Youth, shares how therapy dogs are helping underserved kids build empathy and self-esteem.
- How to Get Started: Moira Mahaney of the ASPCA, Community Partner of Pet Partners, outlines the training and registration process and the support volunteers receive.
There is nothing more rewarding than volunteering with your dog.
There is no fee to attend, but please Register. Please note this is a humans-only event.
