We have chronicled too many tales of anger and frustration between bicyclists and drivers on the Upper West Side. But a “Dear Diary” in the New York Times has opened up the possibility of a new type of emotion: affection.
The writer, Daniel Feigin, said he was biking on 105th street and Broadway to a class when he hit a pothole and went head-over-handlebars. When he came to, three people were standing over him — one of them loaded his bike into her SUV as he got taken to the hospital by cab.
“The next month I worked to meet all my obligations and figure out how to coordinate various fractures. Eventually, I checked the pockets of the pants I was wearing during my accident. There was a business card that had written on it: “Get better soon. You can pick up your bike any time.”

I am from down south (land of hospitality and being considerate of others) but I like to think we’d see more of this kind of thing if more people actually had infrastructure/options to offer – in this case, somewhere to store a bike and an SUV to transport it in. All very cool.
