MORE SIGNS OF LIFE AT EYESORE ON AMSTERDAM: ‘TIME OUT’ SPACE COULD BECOME A BAR AGAIN

February 11, 2013 | 2:07 PM
in NEWS, OPEN/CLOSED
1

We reported about a year ago that a company called BT Restaurant Enterprises had applied for a liquor license at 349 Amsterdam Avenue between 76th and 77th Streets. That space, which once housed Time Out sports bar, has been empty for years.

News of a new restaurant was an exciting development, because the facade has become an eyesore. The application said it was supposed to become a high-end spot, serving dishes like John Dory with roasted fig and Angus burgers.

Sadly, a year has passed and the old location looks pretty much the same. But now there’s some more movement at the space, however. The BT Restaurant folks have reapplied for a new liquor license, this time asking to stay open until 4 a.m. No word yet on what the name of the restaurant/bar might be. A community board committee will discuss the application at a meeting on Wednesday night. Perhaps the owners will reveal more then.

Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
