August 6, 2012 Weather: Partly Cloudy, High of 86 Degrees.

Notices:
We have events up for Monday, including a healthy eating workshop for kids and free performances. (Update: Tuesday’s events up now too, including free Naumberg Bandshell concert)

News:
Frank Herrera, a 51-year-old man, was arrested on charges of killing another tenant on July 27 at the Narragansett Hotel, an SRO at 2508 Broadway between 93rd and 94th Streets. The deceased person’s name hasn’t been released because police have not been able to find a next-of-kin to tell. The Times takes a longer look inside the SRO. (NY Times and DNAinfo)

Rising rents and other changes by the city are causing houseboat residents to flee the 79th Street Boat Basin as the yachts move in. (NY Post)

Fairway is going public, meaning its shares will soon trade on the stock market. No word yet on whether profit-hungry investors will completely destroy all of its wacky charm. (Reuters)

$225 per linear foot is tiny compared to mooring downtown. If you check out the rates at North Cove at the WFC – its many multiples of that per foot. Why should mooring a boat in Manhattan be cheap or City-subsidized? Market rate!
