Actor Michael McKean broke his leg and was seriously bloodied in a nasty accident on 86th Street and Broadway on Tuesday. On Wednesday night, he pronounced himself “lucky” on twitter.
Lucky man: best wife, great kids, awesome docs and nurses, priceless friends; a little overwhelmed by the sweet tweets. Love all y’all.

McKean has appeared in numerous movies, TV shows and plays. He was on Laverne on Shirley, and in Spinal Tap and Best in Show, among other movies. Recently, he has been acting in The Best Man, a play on Broadway. Understudy James Lecesne is taking McKean’s role for now. McKean’s numerous friends in the entertainment world wished him well.
Hey @MJMcKean, congrats on another successful Broadway run, but when friends say “break a leg” we don’t mean it literally. Feel better.

The accident, in which a car hopped the curb after a collision with another vehicle, resulted in no charges, the police said. The NYPD tends to shy away from charging drivers, New York magazine noted in an article about the crash entitled “Hitting Pedestrians with a Car Still not Criminal in New York City.”

Makes “complete sense” that in a pedestrian city like NY reckless drivers get away with no criminal charges. Maybe us pedestrians should get together to lobby for stricter laws on drivers involved in pedestrian accidents. Oh, that’t right, us pedestrians don’t own millions and millions of dollars.
Ana…as a fellow SAG member, I’m a big fan of Michael and his work…but there are such things called “accidents.” Drivers are charged with criminal acts when there is evidence of criminality. And, sure, most of us pedestrians don’t own millions and millions of dollars but some of us do…so is this driver an owner of “millions and millions?” From the photo of the car he (or she) was driving, that does not appear to be the case.
