March 2, 2012 Weather: Mostly Cloudy, High of 44 Degrees.

Notices:
Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal will host her first in a series of Upper West Side clinics on the Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) program on March 8 at her district office, 230 West 72nd Street, Suite 2F. The SCRIE Clinic, which will run from 3 to 7 pm, will provide seniors with the opportunity to have their questions answered and problems solved by her staff and experts from the departments that administer the program.

Deadline for Kindergarten applications is today!

News:
Hector Saint Hilaire, the 62-year-old man who died after being hit by a 2 train at the 72nd Street subway station on Wednesday (there was a second man hit by a train at that station later that day too), apparently was not trying to kill himself, as first reports had said. Saint Hilaire, who was on blood pressure medication, got dizzy and stumbled, falling onto the tracks, his friends said. He was a janitor at the West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing. (NY Times)

A new Brooks Brothers opened its doors yesterday on 87th Street and Broadway, and the staff was very eager to serve customers. “Really, super eager. They could reel it in just a tad, but it was the first day after all, and the store itself is something of a test for the Upper West Side neighborhood to see how well it will support a clothing chain that is more upscale than the Banana Republic and Club Monaco on the next block.” (The Shophound)

Police released a photo of a man in his 60’s suspected of robbing a Bank of America on 110th. (NY Post)

There’s a Wasp nest on the UWS: the new Brooks Brothers…close your ears, pinch your nose, stare at the windows (featuring that lovely plastic grass) – and you’re shopping in Greenwich (as in Connecticut, not the neighborhood downtown).
