Amsterdam Video, the last sex toy/adult video shop on the Upper West Side on Amsterdam Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets, has closed down after 20 years. As sex shops go, it was understated and almost quaint. But with Jacques Torres, Salumeria Rosi and Gina la Fornarina all on the same block it became increasingly clear that people were more interested in food porn than human porn. Yolanda Casal, 78, was killed and her daughter was injured when an SUV backing into a parking spot slammed into them on 98th Street off of Amsterdam Avenue. (Daily News)
A state judge ruled that Upper West Side Success Academy can start construction on its new school co-located in the Louis Brandeis High School building on 84th Street, although the decision over whether the school will open there is still tied up in the courts. (WNYC)
Stephen Brown, was arrested on Thursday and charged with robbery and other crimes in connection with a recent West side crime spree that included 14 robberies and thefts. Brown was charged for 8 of those. (DNAinfo)
