A 24-hour fitness center is coming to Columbus Avenue (at West 92nd Street). Photos by Natalie Demaree

By Lisa Kava and Natalie Demaree

Pure Gym, a  fitness club chain, is “coming soon” to 660 Columbus Avenue (at West 92nd Street), according to the website and signage at the space. The gym has over 50 locations in New York, as well as other locations in New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. Pure Gym features cardio equipment, free weights, personal trainers, and flexible memberships. According to the website, the Columbus Avenue location will be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We will update when we have more information and an expected opening date. Party City, which closed in 2025 was the last tenant in the space. (Thanks to Kevin and Aaron for the tip.)

A chiropractic center has moved into the former location of Peter’s pharmacy, which closed in 2017.

Kiro, a chiropractic care center, opened on July 16th at 652 Amsterdam Avenue (between West 91st and West 92nd streets), founder Sherjan Husainie told West Side Rag in an email. Kiro is a membership-only facility, providing spinal adjustments and light soft tissue work by licensed and trained chiropractors. According to their website, they treat symptoms of spinal arthritis, degenerative disc disease, bulging discs, and herniated discs along with shoulder injuries, neck pain, elbow, and knee pain. New patient appointments cost $39 and memberships are $180 per month with no contracts, Husainie said. Appointments can be booked online or by calling the center. Walk-ins are not accepted. Kiro has other locations in NYC including Nolita, Upper East Side, Columbus Circle, and Williamsburg. Peter’s Pharmacy, which closed in 2017, was the last tenant in the space.

The new home of Dew Nail Spa.

Dew Nail Spa, a nail salon, opened on July 25th at 2605 Broadway (between West 98th and West 99th streets). The nail spa is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, and offers manicures, pedicures, and eyebrow and eyelash services, owner Joyce Wan, who has more than 10 years of experience, told West Side Rag during a visit. Facial services will be available soon, Wan added. The spa is offering a grand opening discount of 20% through the end of August. Cleanport, a dry cleaner, was previously in the space before moving next door. (Thanks to Arianna for the tip.)

Cajun Halal Platters has been closed by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Halal Cajun Platters, a halal and restaurant, has been ordered to close its location at 2707 Broadway (between West 103rd and West 104th streets), after failing a July 20th inspection by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The report listed 74 violations including: handwashing facilities not up to code, live roaches, and failure to follow required refrigeration procedures.

The Openings & Closings column wouldn’t be possible without our many tipsters: thank you! Anyone can send tips about openings and closings in the neighborhood to info@westsiderag.com.

I’m glad Cajun Halal is closed. There was nothing Cajun about them!! Hope they never come back.

The polar opposite, literally and figuratively, of Sun Chan, the prior occupant of that space. The cheap institutional decor and the fit-for-interrogation lighting was off-putting before you even got to the menu. Also with Zuma (Jerusalem Falafel) on the same block, what was the point? Hopefully they’re closed for good and something more appealing takes its place

I’m friends with the owner, this has been really hard on them and their family. The food was good too, inspired by their time living down south

They have the strangest, largest menu that makes me think little of it can be fresh.

The neighborhood has so few decent and affordable gyms. Hopefully we get another one like this further downtown.

It’s private equity money so they can push out every other gym.

It seems to be about $58 a month for a monthly membership once you factor in the annual fee. I don’t know how that really compares to other gyms

That is virtually nothing. Very very low comparatively. I really loved Equinox but I can’t bring myself to go back there given that they cost more than pre pandemic AND close earlier. I am so excited about this

This is wonderful news about pure Gym. I did not even know they existed at all! I didn’t think we had any 24 hour options besides Solace, which is far away. Sometimes I like to work out after Equinox closes and I’ve been trekking all the way down to E. 32nd St. to Solace. I could’ve been going to West 116 to Pure gym and now I can have the luxury of just walking a couple of blocks to the old Party City -wonderful! Hopefully they won’t have the same problem that Party City itself had before it closed. They had an awful sewage smell.

I am celebrating the impending opening of Pure Gym. We need a new gym with new equipment and affordable pricing. This is the answer to my prayers.
