Our featured speaker, Nicole Varghese, was the first winner of the Albert B. Chen Scholarship in 2021. Nicole graduated Hunter College in 2025. She will share her very interesting history of academic success and self-advocacy. In addition, Albert Chen, the generous donor of our annual scholarship will speak as will this year’s winner of his sixth scholarship, Sienna Timmons, of New Dorp HS. Sienna will attend the State University of NY in Albany where she plans to be an adolescent education major focusing on history.

Nicole Varghese graduated from Hunter College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a minor in Human Rights last year. During her time at Hunter, she was involved in the pre-law program and completed internships at a law firm, at the District Attorney’s Office, and at the Richmond County court where she gained firsthand experience in legal research and public service. Over the past year, she completed the law school application process and will soon decide which law school she will be attending as she begins the next chapter of her academic and professional journey. Nicole is honored to speak at the chapter’s annual meeting and grateful for the opportunity to share her experiences and perspective with the community.

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
