On Monday, March 9 at 7pm, join CWP for the first major NYC screening of “Her Fight, His Name”, a documentary about Gwen Carr, the mother of Staten Island resident Eric Garner, who was killed by the NYPD in 2014, and whose death sparked a national outcry forpolice reform. The film chronicles how Ms. Carr channelled her grief into a years-long fight forjustice and united with other “Mothers of the Movement” who have lost family members to police violence.

The thirty-minute documentary will be followed by a talkback with Gwen Carr, Lumumba Akinwole-Bandele of Communities United for Police Reform, film director Brad Bailey, Monifa Bandele of Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Rev. Kirsten John Foy of Arc of Justice, and other participants to be announced.

On Monday, March 16 at 7pm, CWP will host a screening of the Academy Award-winning film “Manchester by the Sea”, followed by an in-person talkback with writer and director Kenneth Lonergan.

Following the sudden death of his older brother Joe, Lee Chandler finds himself back in his hometown of Manchester-by-the-Sea. Lee is shocked to find out that Joe has deemed him the legal guardian of his nephew Patrick, and begrudgingly agrees to stay until the school year is over for Patrick. Taking up residence in his deceased brother’s home, Lee grapples with his mental health and past trauma that made him leave the town where he was born and raised.
