A man was shot early Friday morning on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.
A 41-year-old man was walking near West 90th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 12:20 a.m., when he was shot in the left leg, police said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition, police added.
The NYPD spokesperson said the police are looking for two suspects who ran away from the scene into a building on Amsterdam Avenue, between West 88th and 89th streets.
There have been no arrests as of Friday at 1 p.m. and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The man wearing blankets is back near Lincoln Center. Has a pole and a screwdriver. Saw him threatening to stab people yesterday. Saw him on West 64th street this morning at 5am. He is certifiable, I would avoid him.
Do you suspect him in this shooting at 90th?
I saw him outside the Apple store on Broadway and regretted not having called 911. He is a menace.
Did you call 911? If he’s threatening to stab people you should
I did. The police didn’t show up. The 911 operator was very sceptical about this person being dangerous when I reported him.
I don’t find 911 operators to be skeptical at all when reporting a dangerous situation. I’ve made several calls over the years, and the cops have (surprisingly) showed up in minutes. Comment seems fishy…
911 operators are never skeptical? Give me a break! Just recently, I had a very unpleasant conversation with a 911 operator when I reported a group of teenagers harassing pedestrians. She became nasty when I answered her question about their race. I never saw the police show up, but I didn’t wait in the area for too long.
I’m speaking about this specific instance and not all 911 operators.
And who are you to call my comment fishy?
Do you mean the guy who looks like a sheppard awaiting the birth of baby Jesus? That guy carries a staff and yells a lot and I’m wondering if he could be violent with the staff.
I think he’s a different one. I’ve spoken to him once, when he asked me to buy him lunch (which I did). He gave his name as Michael and told me that he comes from a long line of wizards. He seemed harmless at the time but he has definitely been angrier lately.
You mean Gandalf?!
He was on the UES early Thursday morning and screaming obscenities. How the heck is he getting around the city? Surely he must have been reported several times by now.
He gets around by non paying for the subway.
Gets on the bus.
I’m sure he does. My point is, how is he literally getting around the city in that condition w/o people reporting it. When he showed up in front of the school everyone scattered. I certainly wouldn’t want to be on a bus with him. It’s not like the police wouldn’t spot him.
I did report him once. The police didn’t come.
I am not Sherlock Holmes, but sounds like they ran into the NYCHA building there.
Possible, and it’s quite possible, despite the known violence on that part of Amsterdam, that there weren’t cops even setting in a car playing Candy Crush.
The phone is their work phone. In case you never noticed that’s how the police get information and make reports. The little black books are gone now.
Some times that’s the case I’m sure. But they also spend a lot of time glued to their phones engaged in some kind of game playing.
Damn, they must be reading a lot or writing tons of long emails then…
We have been told crime is down, not sure about known violence on that part of Amsterdam.
Even in the “good old days” of Bloomberg and Rudy, when the overall City murder rate was higher, I’d have certainly thought twice about walking on Amsterdam at 90th at midnight.
Crime is down. Inflation is also down. Also, up is now down
Did the police ever track down the guy who put a gun to the head of the woman at the 86th Street subway station. The UWS is like the wild wild west. I am afraid to go out at night.
Crime is down, not sure what you mean ?
Crime is getting out of hand on the UWS. We need more police patrolling and more cameras. Get rid of all the dangerous scaffolding. I hope Mamdani takes note.
He won’t . uws voted for someone who believes social workers should deal with fb and homeless outreach . You voted to defund the police .
He said he wants to defund the police
This is a lie. Why does WSR allow a comment like this, which is so obviously false? zohran, who carried the UWS handily, probably said 100 times during the campaign that he will keep NYPd headcount at the current level.
And you believed Zohran’s campaign message shift? Did you believe Trump when he claimed ignorance of Project 2025?
Really…do you think he cares about the UWS?
In a way he does. He wants to tax “whiter richer neighborhoods “
Until this city becomes like it was when Guliani won as mayor for the first time, nothing will change for the better. We truly have to hit rock bottom again to get this city back to a nice place to live – like it was until De Blasio completely ruined it. No accountability of our officials, shelters, DA offices. mentally ill everywhere. Yup, rock bottom here we come and maybe we’ll climb out of it again.
And please spare the statistics. If we are commenting on a man wearing blankets with a pole and screwdriver threatening to stab people – while responding here to someone getting shot just after midnight, I don’t give a crap about your statistics.
Well, Rudy G did have by far the highest annual murder rate ever for NYC during his term.
+ the murder rate in De Blasio’s last year was still low compared to the low Bloomberg years’ murder rates.
I think I’ve seen the guy with the blanket, never noticed him threatening anyone or yelling at anyone, while I acknowledge that a guy has returned to 72nd street who, in 2021, approached me silently from behind while I was seated outdoors and knocked my groceries off the chair next to me. (The women at the next table said: que the f.) So it’s not like I don’t notice problem homeless people and remember them.
Omg… what a bunch of absurdity regarding each point.
Say why anything I’ve posted is incorrect.
Statistics statistics statistics…..
And Guliani took over the city when it was Hell, where we seem to be heading now. Heard that statistic a hundred time. It was Hell when he took over.
But statistics statistics statistics…
AGAIN: After 30 years, I know the difference of walking and feeling safe 10 years ago vs now. And I didn’t have to stand in the middle of the subway platform with my head turning every minute to keep an eye out for someone mentally ill rushing up to me. Those things don’t get counted in statistics.
10 years ago De Blasio had been mayor for nearly 2 full years.
Yes, the city was still in the best shape and running smoothly after Bloomberg for a number of years until De Blasio started to make his changes. That’s how good the city WAS. You can keep looking at your statistics…statistics…statistics…
Our quality of life is in the pits and just wait until the 911 operators are ordered to decide if someone really needs the police or not. Then we’ll really be seeing some new statistics with our new mayor.
Stop making sense it upsets people.
We need screwdriver control laws,
Of course you “don’t give a crap” about statistics. Why? Because you already know the truth, and no arguments, statistical or otherwise, are going to make the slightest impression on you. So be happy in your certainty…

I believe this was a false alarm. That NYCHA building is known to be home to a number of engineers and scientists. One of them was likely conducting a physics experiment that may have gone haywire.
Back to commenting about THIS post, as opposed to other unrelated neighborhood gripes…
I live upstairs and was home at the time. I was awoken by the pop-pop-pop of this shooting event. Curious to know anything about the scenario – was it random, was it a robbery, was it a dispute? I often arrive home and/or walk my dog around this time, so it is very scary that this could happen at this intersection. There must be cameras everywhere (especially in and around NYCHA). Also, there appeared to be a young woman outside who was speaking to police right after the incident. Hopefully it’s just a matter of time before we have answers and accountability.
Sending best wishes and good thoughts to the victim.
How about we make gun control a unifying issue for our new mayor, since literally no one else in the country will touch it?!
I’m very anti-gun, but the shootings in our city are committed with illegal guns by criminals who bear little accountability. Stop and frisk will help.
guns don’t kill people. you’re turning a behavioral problem into an object problem. if you think the vast majority of shootings are done with legal guns i have news for you. unless by gun control you’re talking about stop and frisk… in that case, YES!long overdue to bring back S&F
Or we could arr st criminals and put them in jail?
that nycha building is an epicenter of crime. no description of the suspects or the building they went into. sounds like more of the usual. crime stories are like riddles these days.
We never walk past that building because of numerous instances of glass bottles having been thrown out of its windows at us.
Very worrisome. Slashings and shootings in a concentrated are of UWS.
Yes, there has been an uptick. Please, more visible police presence on Amsterdam 89-106. This is becoming too common
Once we defund the police all this crime will stop. At least according to the DSA.
you forgot zMikells jaz club at 92 and Columbus. zit really ticked in there either way too musicians playing live
