2nd Slashing in 48 Hours Takes Place on Upper West Side: NYPD

By Gus Saltonstall

For the second time in around 48 hours, a man was slashed in the same two-block stretch of the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.

Around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, a 31-year-old man was slashed in the face near 874 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 102nd and 103rd streets, police said. The victim, who was in stable condition, took himself to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, police said.

There has not been an arrest as of Monday morning, and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The slashing on Sunday took place a couple of days after a 42-year-old man was stabbed in the shoulder Friday night at West 104th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, police said. A person was taken into custody at the scene of the Friday attack, but NYPD did not confirm as of Monday morning if an arrest had been made.

Police added that the two incidents were not viewed as connected as of Monday.

If you vote for Mamdani and crime goes up in NYC, you were warned so you did it to yourself when it happens.

What a stupid comment. This happened NOW and he’s not the mayor.

he’s been raging against police for a decade. said he wants to hire fewer cops. wants to open more free injection sites, has wanted to decriminalize prostitution, doesn’t think people should be incarcerated for “small” crimes. he is all in n more criminal justice reform.

his answer to the deranged poepel on the street is to hire more mental health care professionals to go out into the street. the problem with this is that it doesn’t work. we have a lot of this now and the result is what we all see everyday.

it’s perfectly reasonable to fear that crime and disorder will get worse

Why is this hysterical pre-crimes of Mamdani speculation approved by moderators?

Eric Adams is so incompetent and corrupt that he had no chance of winning his party primary, and then he had no chance of winning the general election as an independent.

Cuomo ran a clueless primary race, and managed to insult the intelligence of most NYC voters, and his general election race has been much of the same xenophobia included.

what is this hysterical call for silencing people who don’t like Mamdani’s anti-law enfrcement, pro-injection site and decriminalization of prostitution positions?

Everything about Mamdani is speculation because he isn’t mayor. But it’s perfectly reasonable to fear, and express, that crime will get worse if he becomes mayor. why should commenters not be allowed to say they think crime will get worse under Mamdani??

it’s disturbing that you want the West Side Rag to only approve pro-Mamdani comments.

Cuomo’s website is filled with logical, intelligent, common sense proposals that speak to the very real problems in NYC and the needs of people here. I guess you haven’t looked at them?

Mamdani’s website has some good ideas but a lot more pie-in-the-sky stuff that can’t succeed or help most people, but will add hugely to the middle-class tax burden (which is usually how far-left progressive ideas play out). He’s extremely inexperienced, so we’ll be his learning ground, and then he’ll move on to business or lucrative speaking engagements and make a fortune while we deal with his failed initiatives. His proposals appeal to people’s emotions and sense of injustice, but they don’t hold up under scrutiny.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not.

Even if that were true, which is dubious, he still lost the primary and has run a campaign largely based on xenophobia.

Remember, he’s the one who nearly destroyed the subways, not a good record.

Please explain your comment. The recent shootings and other crimes on the UWS have all happened under Adams, who is supsedly though on crimes. So, if that didn’t work, why the comments on Mamdani

I’m retired NYPD I know what motivates Cops and what makes Cops shut down.Mamdani has said he will give the power to fire Cops to CCRB. Cops will risk their lives but they will not risk Pension.

Tell us then, how would you motivate NYPD to get off their phones and do their jobs? Apparently disciplining them for breaking the law or abusing their authority is a no no…

Giving CCRB is going to have to power to fire Cops instead of the Police Commissioner. CCRB is a cesspool of Cop hating Libs. Proactive intelligent enforcement with a goal prevents crime. UWS Dad if a cop looking at their phone, they are not going to see crimes being committed. And that is the smart move sometimes

The criminal?
Who knew assaulting those people was a political move.
Do you think the victims will feel better about their injuries if they see it in that light? How about all the many, many people who’ve been assaulted/seriously injured/killed in NYC by attackers with multiple violent crime records (who’d been previously released through DA Bragg’s policies)? Do you see them as political symbols too?

EdNY…… your attitude is one of the reasons why this crime problem exists. Crime is unacceptable. No matter what city you live in.

So, then the NYPD should police white collar crime on Wall Street and in big real estate? There’s plenty of both in NYC, and in many cases the perps ain’t just breaking federal laws.

Of course its unacceptable and there need to be consequences which is why we pay NYPD $5bn a year.

But even in a totalitarian society like China or very rich / organized one like Switzerland, crime does happen. Zero crime is just not a realistic baseline. Thankfully we keep stats that show NYC crime is historically low.

It is easier and cheaper to maintain a safe city like Bloomberg did. De Blasio let the city descend into a very unsafe city, Over the past few years they dumped huge money trying to bring back the subway. If you ever noticed a Detective in the subway smiling big and humming a Jimmy Buffet song. That was me, that overtime added about 35% to my pension., every month for the rest of my life. In terms of money crime was my business and business was good. I will always love NYC. Mamdani will be a disaster for public safety.

Street crime was lower under Bill D than Mike B.

Also, Bloomberg’s 3rd term was illegal, and stop and frisk is unconstitutional.

We need more cops, more funding for police, more cameras, more holding and arrests. If these things do not happen, crime will go up.

I live in the area and walk my dog pretty often on those blacks on Amsterdam. Hard to know what’s really going on, but I do know that there are guys hanging out in front of a deli there all day and night. Of course, people have a right to stand in a public place any time. But, I can’t be naive either. Definitely looks like they’re doing some business. So, these slashings may not be random. Difficult to belief that the police don’t know about this – the precinct is around the corner.
