Ever/Body, a cosmetic dermatology provider, opened at 2159 Broadway (76th Street) on March 17th. The center offers personalized, high-tech and medically-vetted cosmetic dermatology services, including many types of peels, facials and fillers. Ever/Body opened its first center in NYC in 2019 and the new UWS location will be its eighth overall. “We chose the Upper West Side because we believe this community would welcome a higher standard of cosmetic dermatology,” said CEO Amy Shecter. “We are thrilled to have a prime location on Broadway to deliver personalized skin, hair and body treatments to our clients in a beautiful, luxurious space.” The center will take up almost half the block, filling vacancies left by Stuart Weitzman, Papyrus and L’Occitane.

Bardolino 2, a pizza shop at 411 Amsterdam Avenue, closed two weeks ago, a worker from the Upper East Side location told West Side Rag. According to the worker there was “too much competition from many other pizza places in the neighborhood.” The original location of Bardolino Pizza at 1505 Lexington (at 97th Street) remains open. (Thanks to MEF for the tip.)

Intimissimi, an Italian lingerie brand founded in 1996, opened at 241 Columbus Avenue on the corner of 71st Street on March 17th. In addition to lingerie, Intimissimi sells pajamas, socks, and swimwear. The brand has a few shops in Manhattan as well as on Long Island and in New Jersey and Connecticut. The space was formerly occupied by the high-end European clothing store, IRO.

The Jewel Boutique, the longtime jewelry shop at 2586 Broadway between 97th and 98th Streets, is closed temporarily from March 18th until April 2nd. A note to customers apologizes for any inconvenience and says that “all personal belongings and valuables are at a secure and separate vaulted location.” Established in 1989, The Jewel Boutique specializes in custom designs and re-styling. “You dream it, I’ll make it,” said owner Harmeet Singh, when he was featured in WSR’s Small Business Focus back in 2017.

Barnes & Noble on Broadway and the corner of 82nd Street has closed its cafe until April 15th for renovations. The cafe is being moved to the second floor, where other renovations are already underway. Areas toward the middle of the floor have been curtained off, while most of the bookshelves around the perimeter of the space remain in use. The rest of the construction is expected to wrap up around May, a store clerk said. Barnes & Noble opened this UWS location 30 years ago, when it was driving local, independent booksellers out of business. After being disrupted by Amazon, Barnes & Noble is now having a comeback – sales are up since the pandemic and it is refurbishing many of its stores and opening new ones.

Fashion Nail and Spa has opened at 521 Columbus Avenue between 85th and 86th Streets. The large salon offers manicures, pedicures, waxing and massage. To celebrate the opening, it is offering 20% off all services. Fashion Nail has six locations on the Upper East Side. This is the first one on the Upper West Side. The space was formerly occupied by Uni K Wax.

Steps New York, a discount women’s clothing chain, is closing its location on Broadway at 105th Street. A “retail space for rent” sign is posted in the window, even though the shop is still open for the time being. A manager at the store said they are still receiving inventory and hasn’t heard when they will close yet. Steps NY was founded in 1994 and has since expanded to 23 locations in New York, New Jersey and Florida. We will update when we have more information. (Thanks to Tracy for the tip.)
seeing Barnes & Noble listed in the title of your Openings and Closings piece struck fear through my heart. Happy is see they are doing well.
Ditto!
Same! This B&N has been a part of my joy for a long time. HaPpy it’s staying and investing in its future.
Yes! My heart stopped
Me too! Loved the B&N on Bway/66th and then really loved the C21 .if only…we’re waiting.
SAME!!!! Felt like clickbait when it was just about the café.
I have to laugh, true bibliophiles new that B &N was doing this back in Dec. Thats when they started the renovation to the store. Hopefully they well expand the new non fiction section on the first floor. There union square store built out many more racks to do so
Dear Robert:
Thou has made several errors:
1. “bibliophiles NEW” …KNEW
2. “they WELL expand” …WILL
3. “THERE union Square store”…THEIR
Hopefully this will help. Go and sin no more
Thou ‘hast’
Thank you!
To make it perfectly clear, The Jewel Boutique owners are just on spring vacation, as many family-owned shops do from time to time. Harmeet has indicated this to many of his longtime customers who have custom pieces in production.
The Jewel Boutique is closed for a two week vacation. Its customers received an email notification.
Thank goodness because they are the best. Outstanding customer service and quality repair work!
Playa Bowls opened on 110th and Broadway.
B&N is the anchor store of the UWS.
“According to the worker there was “too much competition from many other pizza places in the neighborhood.”
That is true, but not all of those pizza places have great slices or anything else for that matter.
Perfecto was the best. Now it is gone. We are still searching for a worthy successor.
Sad to hear about Bardolino – I was always a fan of theirs for a quick slice. When the other places opened up Amsterdam from them I knew it meant trouble. I would take their pizza over Made in NY any day.
A new Barnes and Noble is opening on Third Avenue & 87th Street this spring, so hopefully soon. I’m looking forward to their Broadway store’s new cafe; I used to go to the fantastic cafe in their now closed 66th Street branch, which had thousands of magazines and journals from around the world, inviting pastry and sandwich offerings, plus a fifth-floor view. I used to see Philip Roth there from time to time, along with other literary stars.
WSR please give the cross street for all addresses (missing Bardolino).
I see the “Space for Lease” sign is back over the Petco on 92nd st after the scaffolding was removed.
Funny how Barnes & Noble was cast as the villain until Amazon came along. Now, B&N is the hero. They’re one of the few places left in the neighborhood with an extensive magazine selection. May their reign be eternal.
I would say they are the ONLY place in the hood with a decent magazine selection, which is pretty ridiculous.
Every time I walk by the block that housed Lincoln Plaza Cinemas I seethe with anger.
Once one of the best blocks- great newsstand with magazines from all over the world, a cafe with baked goods next door, and a great arts cinema.
Now- all empty spaces aside from Breads Bakery.
No one has good magazine selections anymore because so many have gone out of business or are online only. Publishers make more money on the less frequent special issues

This might be true of mainstream magazines but there has been an explosion of independent magazines of all kinds in the last decade or so.
Casa Magazines, Iconic News, and Soho News- all downtown- are packed to the gills with magazines. Just to name a few shops. Magazine Cafe on 37th street is great too.
Travel to any European city and there are still kiosks and newsstands selling all manner of printed material.
The shop near Lincoln Plaza was like this too.
It’s a poor reflection on the UWS and many NYC hoods that the choices are so barren.
The Jewel Boutique is a neighborhood gem! Harmeet is wonderful! He worked with my then fiancée and me to design a beautiful and unique wedding band for her, using gemstones passed down from her mother.
