There was a stabbing Saturday evening at the D’Agostino supermarket at 633 Columbus Avenue on 91st Street.

“A 51-year-old employee of the store got into a dispute with an ex-employee at around 6:45 p.m.,” an NYPD detective told the Rag. “When the ex-employee was asked to leave the store, the dispute escalated and the suspect pulled out a sharp, bladed object and inflicted serious lacerations to the left side of the victim’s head, and puncture wounds to his back. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Morningside hospital in stable condition.”

The identity and address of the assailant are known to the police, the detective added, though he has not yet been apprehended.

Rag contributor Jeff French Segall went to the store at about 10 p.m. last night and found it closed and blocked by “a security guard I had never seen.” Two employees standing outside the store told him that the victim was the manager, and the ex-employee had been fired a year ago by another manager. “They added that the current manager had no idea who the ex-employee was,” Jeff wrote. “They said the store would be open on Sunday.”

Best wishes to the manager for a speedy and full recovery from this trauma. He’s a nice guy.

And how many minutes will it take for the perpetrator to be released from custody with no bail after he is caught?

Exactly. Someone who decides that stabbing someone is OK should not walk the streets among us. There is no excuse for that. Anyone who thinks this person should not be locked up for a long time also should not be walking the streets among us.

More importantly, I hope the victim is OK. What a horrible experience.

When is the mayor going to start increasing cops in the UWS?

It wouldn’t have prevented this incident. But the fact remains that the police presence on the UWS really needs to be improved.

for free? or due to the support they have gotten from society?

i want more and better police protection (Lord knows I can’t defend myself), but i can’t reasonably say cops have any reason to go the extra mile. They are demonized by citizens, by the courts, and by the media.

By email, pressure must be exerted on the Governor and your state representative sending emails to their websites that the state legislature must again modify the bail law to give judges discretion to impose bail. The most recent change to the law that was that was originally enacted in 2020 focuses on guns, not violent street and subway crime where a weapon isn’t involved. Last week on the UWS an individual being apprehended by the police then threatened the officers with a knife and who was then released 24 hours later. INSANE

After living in Manhattan for 21 years with 15 years on the UWS, I have never heard of so many KNIVES being used to threaten or stabbings occurring more than I have over the last 1-2 years. So what has changed?

I completely agree with Leon.
There is absolutely NO excuse to allow this dangerous person to be free to possibly inflict injury to others.
The present bail reform may have had its roots in good intention, but I consider it a massive failure if it leads to more innocent people being put in harms way. Don’t innocent people have a right not to live in fear of being victimized in their own neighborhood?

I wanted to add the most important comment which is sending my healing wishes to the manager. Such a tragic and traumatic experience.

The victim is my brother and he is doing very well now, but for that jackass that did this he better hope the police find him before I do. I am my brother’s keeper and protector and I really hate that this happened to my brother. Some devil’s just can’t be contained they must be destroyed and put away for good.

Thank you all for your prayers we appreciate it.

I don’t know the manager but we pray for his quick recovery. As far as the statement that the perpetrator will soon be out, just remember that bail is to assure that the accused returns to court. His guilt or innocence will be determined later.
