Summer will be quiet on the Upper West Side, as some of the signature events in the neighborhood won’t be happening this year. Shakespeare in the Park has been canceled, and Lincoln Center won’t be offering its free Out of Doors festival, Midsummer Night Swing, or Mostly Mozart festivals.
It’s a sign that even if businesses start to reopen when the peak of the virus passes, we won’t go back to “normal” in the next few months — normal on the UWS has to include performance art!
Lincoln Center has pledged to hold a bigger festival when the pandemic passes. “It is our intention, when it is safe again to gather in-person, to stage a free pop-up festival in a celebration of our great city, and the selfless first responders and healthcare workers who are giving so much during this crisis,” the organization said.
Lincoln Center does have a pretty robust “at home” calendar for kids and adults. So plug in your best speakers, close your eyes and enjoy.
These are the times that try culture lovers souls.
