Name: Louie, but my Instagram followers know me as “Louie Don’t Give a Poop”. Mom got the idea when she realized that my default expression tends to look vaguely…displeased.
Age: 4 years old.
Breed: Boston Terrier.
Profile/history: Mom adopted me from someone who couldn’t take care of me anymore when I was about six months old. At the time, I wasn’t doing well. I had a lot of breathing and respiratory issues and Mom spent countless nights taking care of me and running steam showers to help clear out my sinuses. We bonded quickly and I’ve been feeling better ever since!
Daily routine: Ooof. Well, I’m not a morning pup. Usually, I’ll go downstairs, use the bathroom, come back in and eat some breakfast, and then it’s time for my mid-morning nap. Mom works from home as a writer and journalist, so I’ll pitch ideas and copy edit some of her work. I can tell she appreciates it when I perch awkwardly on her lap while she tries to type. In the afternoon, we’ll spend a couple of hours walking around the neighborhood and enjoying the local parks. I especially like strolling along the ten blocks between 75th and 85th Streets in Riverside Park. While we’re out exploring, Mom might get inspired to take a photo for my Instagram account. Halloween decor, Bansky, Spring blooms, the Plaza Hotel. No poops given.
Loves: I like riding the subway – don’t let the face fool you.
Does not love: Things I don’t give a poop about.
Favorite store/business on the UWS: I love stopping in to each of the neighborhood pet stores and perusing new product lines.
Favorite treat: Anything mom has, I want. Ugh, except carrots. I once grabbed a carrot from Mom and immediately regretted it. Blech!
Favorite park spot: I like saying hello to other pups on the hill in Central Park by Le Pain Quotidien as well as visits to Strawberry Fields and walks along the water in Riverside Park.
Since your Mom is a writer, tell us about some of your favorite books: Many books are, frankly, not worth giving a poop about, but one that I loved is Colson Whitehead’s “The Colossus of New York”. It’s all about the lives of New Yorkers and the experiences of living here. A great read indeed!

If West Side Rag readers are interested in becoming pet owners, we encourage you to consider adopting or volunteering to be a foster parent with one of the many shelters and nonprofits based in and around New York City. These include but aren’t limited to: Muddy Paws Rescue; Animal Lighthouse Rescue; Animal Care Centers of NYC; NYC ASPCA; Humane Society of New York; Bideawee; Social Tees; Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue and Animal Haven.
Such a face! Love it.
Oh, Louie! Why no mention your girlfriends on the UWS? Erin is broken hearted but knows you have many passions.
