Starting this Friday, there will be a worldwide “Climate Strike” to highlight the need for action on climate change. In conjunction with the event and in advance of Climate Week next week, there are two Upper West Side events meant to highlight efforts to de-carbonize the city.

I wonder how the “global artists” as well as their costumes and equipment will be arriving at the parking spots.
I wonder if your low hanging fruit will taste as good when the island of Manhattan is under water.
Re: “when the island of Manhattan is under water.”
The ENTIRE island?? Me-thinks NOT, for our little island still has MANY HILLS, as sayeth Wikipedia, the name derives from:
“Mannahatta, which in the Lenape dialect most likely meant island of many hills.”
However, it could also have meant “the island where we all became intoxicated”
Hmmmmm………..
Yeah right Chris…because liberals want it doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen. Guess you think the timing is 11 years because that’s the estimate of the esteemed scientist AOC. Not to mention, large polluters (China & India) are doing nothing…
Pretty good from those of us who will be in Calgary!!!l
very funny!
There is no way NYC will become carbon Neutral most buildings are not built tight and there is not enough money to rebuild all these high rises. The best way to do this is to have mandatory population control as Joe Biden has alluded to.
And shutting down Broadway at rush hour will create more carbon then having the avenue free flowing.
Yeah, you’re right. No carbon neutrality possible, so let’s just give up.
Bring back cheaper #2 heating oil! To hell with catalytic converters! Un-certify all the LEED buildings!
Or we can reduce our emissions as much as is feasible.
Ummmm can you please post the alluded Biden comment (and don’t forget to mention what its source is) which you just alluded to? Many thx in advance!
Most westernized countries (even ‘The Great Republic of Trumpiana) understand the need to combat Climate Change.
Now, all that needs to be done is to (GASP!!)convince India, China, etc. to halt THEIR massive Carbon Dioxide emissions (traffic, industry, farming) because…guess wot…(GASPx2 !!!) the U.S. is NOT the only be-fouler of earth’s atmosphere.
The US is not the biggest carbon hungry earth destroyer….. That’s not what I hear on the news…..
Aren’t these activities what parks are for? WHy shut down Broadway when you are right next to Central Park?
Let the dancers shut down the new bike lane on CPW – that will cause more of a commotion than 4 parking spaces. Or let the dancers block the loading zones in front of Zabars and Fairway – more publicity for their cause.
I agree, I was just wondering myself why these activities are taking place in the street as opposed to the park which would be a much nicer setting for kids and adults alike. I’ve never understood the purpose of shutting down streets which then affects public transportation.
It “feels” more important. Self-aggrandisement by those who did not study Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Bio or any other hard science but have found a new way to feel more virtuous than thee.
Why don’t we just close the city down for a couple of weeks.
If everybody brought their dog, it could be a nighmare
of too many dogs (there are) and people.
Ugh!
So this means re-routing and no access to the M104 bus.
And similarly the M10 and M20 due to CPW closures.
Not understanding why it is always “OK” to treat bus riders as 4th class citizens?
RE: Comment #7 on re-routing buses. Why doesn’t the State-run N.Y.C. Transit Authority put up paper signs saying that a bus is re-routed? Is it beyond their ken and/or ability? Yes. . . Once upon a time, I telephoned the T.A. Veep for “Surface” (Transit’s term for bus) to ask him to put up photocopied signs saying that the M5 RSD bus wasn’t running there, but on B’way. He did it.
