Morning Bulletin: Mansion-Seller Accepting Bitcoin, Trump’s Name Removed Again, Kimmel’s Lincoln Center Stunt

October 22, 2018 Weather: Cloudy, with a high of 55 degrees.

Notices:
Gotham Gargoyles and more local events are on our calendar.

News:
A mansion at 40 Riverside Drive (76th Street) is on the market for $16 million and the owner is willing to be paid in bitcoin. “Were someone to pay in the cryptocurrency, Niederhoffer says, he would simply cover his share of the closing costs in hard currency. ‘Whatever the obligations and brokers fees are, I would pay in cash and keep the Bitcoin,’ he says.”

The building at 200 Riverside Boulevard took Donald Trump’s name off the facade after winning in court. “The building bought the right to use the Trump name in 2000, paying $1 under a four-page licensing agreement signed by Mr. Trump. But the sentiment about having his name over the front door changed during Mr. Trump’s campaign. Many residents sought to distance themselves from his politics.”

Jimmy Kimmel quizzed people on how they felt about Lincoln center being renamed for Trump. It was a hoax of course. “‘We wanted to see what would happen if we told people there was a place where Trump’s name was going up, so we set up shop outside of Lincoln Center and we told people passing by that Lincoln Center was gonna be renamed Trump Center because he bought it and, guess what, they bought it, too.’ The first interview subject immediately cursed when he was told that Trump bought the landmark.”

An Upper West Side building co-op owner wants some of that sweet sweet basil growing on the roof.

Cy Adler, a local who started a walk that circumnavigated Manhattan, has died at 91. “You see things on these walks you wouldn’t see anywhere else in New York. We saw cows in Staten Island, oysters in the Bronx and pheasants above the George Washington Bridge. We saw dead chickens hanging from trees on the Harlem River that looked like they had been part of a voodoo sacrifice.”

Removing the Trump name from 200 Riverside Boulevard is okay as far as it goes. But simply to call the building by its street address, as the owners plan, is wimpy. What are they, a bunch of losers? The owners should go all the way and rename the building Hillary House.

What does it say about 200 Riverside that they wanted Trump’s name on the building, AND that he was willing to give it to them for essentially nothing.

Re: “dead chickens…that looked like they had been part of a voodoo sacrifice.”

Pretty sure no one was singing:
“….Let me live ‘neath your spell / You do that voodoo that you do so well….”
(Cole Porter 1929)

Sorry for the ear-worm!

When you walk along the shorelines of NYC, think of Cy Adler. He is responsible for much of the enhancements that make the waterfront what it is today and what it will become tomorrow. A wonderful, humble, visionary who will be very much missed.
