New coffee and stylish workout gear are coming to the Upper West Side.
Jack’s Stir Brew, a coffee shop that serves organic brews and vegan food, is planning to open at 370 Columbus Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets, the former home of New Museum Deli. Jack’s coffee is stirred as it’s brewed, and they even got a patent for the method. The Post recently took a look at the upcoming menu. “New dishes include a pita sandwich with avocado, kale, cucumber and a nut-free pesto spread; a vegan muffuletta with tempeh, tomato, lettuce and olive tapenade; Asian-infused soba bowl with tofu, cabbage, asparagus and ginger-sesame dressing; and a Gazpacho with tomato, red bell pepper, cucumber and shallots. The new options, made on site daily, will be priced between $7 to $12.50.” We had previously heard it was opening on 74th and Columbus, but that may have been misinformation, or another potential location. We’ve had trouble getting in touch with them to confirm. Thanks to Chris J. and Keith for the tips.
Lululemon is planning to open a new location in the Time Warner Center, on the street level on the South side of the building. It’s slated to open in the fall, says Danielle.
Don Ramon is opening up on Columbus and 107th. Information on the restaurant is limited so far, and the phone number on the front doesn’t appear to be working yet. Thanks to Daren for the tip. And thanks to readers who pointed out that we had misread Ramon as Ramen! D’oh!
Amsterdam 99 Cent Plus on 89th and Amsterdam is closing on July 14 and moving operations to 2602 Broadway at 98th Street, which is now 99 Cent Planet Plus. They say they’re also looking for a new location in the area.
Dovetail, the fine dining spot on 77th Street, has now closed, with a sign saying that it will renovate and reopen in September. Chef John Fraser has left, and it’s not yet clear what the newly renovated restaurant will serve. Thanks to Yon-Loon for the photo.
Are you sure that is “Ramen” and not “Ramon”? Might be Latin American instead!
Hellooooo! We got lots of empty storefronts along Broadway in the West 90’s & West 100’s and we could use some good restaurants up here. Anyone? Anyone? Chef Bueller?
There’s already a Lulu on Bway at 64th (?) and another one just north of Citarella….certainly Lulu’s clientele can make it the 5 blocks from Time Warner.
Oh – who am I kidding?
Yourself, if, as your gratuitous comment suggests, you think you are somehow immune from the ravages of aging.
LOL
I remember telling the Westside Rag about this Coffee shop over a month ago. I also reported about the new Bakery store between 80th St. and 79th St. next-door to Scotch and Soda clothing store that will be opening in September and T & R Puzza coming back to their original location on Amsterdam Avenue between 80th St. and 79th St.
The people working at 99 cent store were not nice which might have had something to do with this. People were spending money and they were bothered to deal with it.
The people that ran that place were great. Sorry to see them go.
Horseshit I shopped there all the time the building is coming down to be replaced my doubtless a monstrosity.
I don’t think anyone in the neighborhood needs to walk further than a black for fancy coffee these days.
Can anyone confirm where the New Museum Deli people wound up? Their sign said 79th and Columbus, but I haven’t seen Sally the bodega cat at that other bodega location…
Yes, The deli on W. 79th St. at Columbus Avenue (102 West 79th Street) that’s been there for years was the owner of The Museum Deli.
Looks like it’s Don Ramon, not Ramen.
Yup–I love WSR, but this is the most hilarious oversight I’ve ever seen. Just read, folks!
Wow, just what we need is another coffee joint
Better that than another nail salon or overpriced boutique, IMO.
Coffee is extremely popular, there are usually long lines at every decent coffee shop on the UWS, and so one could easily argue that we do in fact need more coffee joints.
FYI, Coppolas is still closed…they say they will reopen this wkend. I am having chicken parm withdrawal!
Try the Chicken Parm at Parm or at Carmine’s
Love love Coppola’s!!! The best chicken Parm hands down anywhere!! Why did they close?? We have been so depressed 🙁
The building their in and rent from suffered a severe gas ruptured piping in the building and has to be re-piped and the landlord is taking their sweet time on doing this, it’s a on-going procedure and very costly and may not be completed until the end of the year. Every had pipe in the building must be replaced. Samething happened over at the Chesterfield Apartments which put T&R pizza out of business for the last two years and the whole chain of business is below the apartment building at Amsterdam Avenue & 80 Street.
@nelson try La Vela across the street on Amsterdam. Not sure chicken parm is on the menu but they’ve always made a decent one for us when my son wanted one. We recently started going there again after just not having it on our radar for ages and it has several dishes which we’d forgotten were so good.
They won’t be reopening until sometime in September “Con Edison said… “ If at all…they may be looking for another location now, so hold on don’t lose it. Thank god I’m gone for the summer through August or I would be freaking out too,,, yum Yum. We have a place here in Lake Placid called Lisa G. and she makes the very best Chicken Parm. After two years T & R pizza will be reopening in September on Amsterdam Avenue at the original location between 80th St. and 79th St.
They reopened already.
My guess is that Lululemon will close their location on 64th when they open the new location in the Time Warner Center. That’s what MAC did when they moved from 66th/67th last year.
I went to Jack’s Stir Brew near South St Seaport a few times. Honestly I didn’t really get it, thought the stir brew coffee was kinda tasteless. And most of their menu is espresso-based, which doesn’t use the stir brew mechanism.
Having said that, it was a very nice coffee shop, good food, pleasant environment, etc.
Is Polpette on Amsterdam closing?
