BOURBON STREET BAR, LONGTIME UWS STAPLE, SET TO CLOSE NEXT WEEKEND

Bourbon Street Bar, a longtime sports bar at 407 Amsterdam Avenue between 79th and 80th famous for its 50-cent beer specials, will close next Saturday, an employee confirmed.

He wasn’t sure what forced the closing — it may have had to do with a rent increase. In any case, it’s another tough break for a local dive bar.

“The UWS is totally changing as you know,” wrote Colleen O’Donnel, who sent in the tip. “Sad to see the old dive spots disappearing.”

There will be send-off parties on Wednesday and Saturday. Stop in and have a brew.

Tap a Keg seems to have some other reason for existing. I’ve never seen more than 4-5 people in there at a time.

Yay! No more drunk frat boys bellowing on the sidewalk below my daughter’s bedroom window at 2 am and leaving behind puddles of puke the next morning! And let’s not mention that time our doorman caught a plastered couple… coupling in our building atrium around the corner. This place, like many of its patrons, had a real problem. Won’t be missed.

Another shop shuttered on what was the hot upper west side. I have lived here since the 70s, and I have never seen so many shuttered retail spaces here around the same time, from the W 60s on up. Within about the past week 3 restaurants and a nail joint closed in the 60s. Will it ever stop?

the bar has been there for since way before your 2yr old daughter was born. Why would you choose to live above a bar if you were going to complain about it. That’s all on you. People like you are the worst! Millions of other apartments in the city to choose from. I hope it’s replaced by a similar bar.
