MUGGER TARGETS 2 WOMEN IN CENTRAL PARK, POLICE SAY

A mugger pushed an 80-year-old woman to the ground and stole her cell phone after first attempting to rob another woman, police told the Daily News. The attacked occurred on the West Side of the park around 100th street shortly after noon on Friday.

The man first approached another woman and demanded money, but she has a hearing aid and was able to convince him she was deaf.

“Moments later, he grabbed an 80-year-old woman from behind and wrestled her to the ground. He took the woman’s cell phone, sources said, but the woman, who was out for her regular walk, scared him off by kicking him and screaming for help.”

The man is described as black, in his 20s, with a thin build and wearing a dark jacket. It’s not clear if these incidents are connected to another mugging two weeks ago where a man demanded that a woman perform a sex act on him.

Jeez, what is with all the older women getting attacked in Central Park about? That is right by the pond, which is usually quite busy… are these creeps complete cowards, that they can’t even take on someone their own size?

Something needs to be done when one can’t take a walk in the park in the middle of the day without getting beaten. Is it the same kid from last week? Yet again, the 24th precinct not doing ANYTHING about this!! It was just last Friday afternoon that the same thing happened.

How dare elderly women use the park?! Don’t they know the answer to crime is to stay indoors.
Thank you DeBlasio. By the way, if the police seem, they won’t stop and question them unless they are in the middle of a new crime. Welcome to New York, 2017.

This is not meant to be funny, but when you say a black man, what color is his skin? Black people come in many different shades, from very light brown, tan, to very dark brown. Black by itself does not really describe anyone, if you are really trying to do that. Just using the term black implies you just want to let people know that an African American man is a suspect. I’m sure you didn’t mean to do that.
And what race were the victims?

I beg your pardon, but I am a very dark-skinned (i.e. “black”) person who is not of African or American ancestry. Is it possible that you are over-generalizing with xenophobic undertones and a racist agenda?
Good day, and come again.

Then why are you generalizing that he is an African-American? He could be Afro-anything else.

What does it matter what race the victims were?

What does it matter what race the alleged attacker was? Neither really matter, but why does the West Side Rag mention the race of the suspect?

WSR tells you that so you can be on the lookout for the suspect. He may also be wearing an “I Love DeBlasio” tshirt.

I don’t think anyone is searching for the victims, so their physical description isn’t relevant to anything.

Hate to raise his specter, but it feels like some Bernard Goetz-crazy-vigilante is going to rise up to “defend” these women by going off on some meddlesome but otherwise harmless teenagers.

Did you miss the part about knocking an 80 year-old woman to the ground? Since when is assault ‘harmless’? Who in their right minds considers muggings simply ‘meddlesome’? I hope the cretin that did this tries it on a Bernard Goetz.

maybe deblasio should let his family walk in the park and see if he cares about safety. please let us find someone to run against this dope!

A racist and failed police tactic would not have prevented this. If any of you can’t come up with a more constructive solution, your thinking is just as bad as the mugger in this article.

If there’s a police precinct right in the park, don’t get how there could be so much crime!! Where the hell are the cops?? And these crimes are happening in the daytime too so there can’t be any victim shaming. No cops on the beat in the park anymore? Maybe see a car or 2 circling the drives but that’s it!! And the criminals know there aren’t enough police around so they can get away with it!! Again, where are the cops from that precinct??
