‘Tis the season for gift and crafts shows, and the Upper West Side is chock full of them. As always, make sure to stop by local small businesses too and check out their gift selections.
The Columbus Circle Holiday Market is open every day from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. (7 p.m. on Sundays), selling clothing, crafts and food outside the Merchants Gate entrance to Central Park.
This Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the West Side YMCA is holding a crafts show from the Y’s Artworks class, with one-of-a-kind crafts like ceramic vases, bowls, plates, cups, serving pieces, vessels, decorative items, jewelry, ornaments, mosaics, water colors and much more. It’s in the George Washington Lounge at The Westside YMCA, 5 West 63rd Street (between Central Park West & Columbus). The show runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 to 6 on Saturday.
The Grand Bazaar flea market in the playground at 77th and Columbus is holding a special holiday bazaar for the next two Sundays from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
There are also some interesting art shows going on.
West-Park Presbyterian on 86th and Amsterdam is holding a handmade paper show by artist Junia Flavia d’Affonseca with musical accompaniment. It opens on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and there will be a handmade paper workshop from 11 to 1 on Saturday.
Also on Saturday starting at 1, Bard Graduate Center at 38 West 86th Street is holding a workshop for kids to make theatrical masks. (If you get there at noon, you can also attend a special tour of a design exhibition.)
Artist Martha Ives has a show of etchings and linocuts like the one below up at the Morningside Heights Library at 2900 Broadway (113th Street) until December 30.
And Peter Salwen, a local artist and author who just had a show at St. Agnes Library, has a very pretty new calendar out for 2017 with many paintings of the UWS.
Does anyone know what happened to the holiday fair at St. John the Divine? It was always one of my favorites.
I really missed the St. John crafts fair this year, but could find no announcement about it at all. They didn’t even put a notice that it was cancelled on the fence outside the hall where it was always held. Nothing on St. John’s website either. What a shame.
They said that the hall where it’s usually held is undergoing renovation. Next year, they say it will be held in the Cathedral.
Doralynn — One of my favorites, too. One of the exhibitors sent an announcement that included this address — https://www.craftsatthecathedral.org/index.html —
which explains why there is no fair this year and gives dates for 2017. Margaret
Thank you 😊💕for all the information.
It’s appreciated so very much.
Happy Holidays 🙋🏼🍾🎉🍎🍎🍎

Some nice food vendors here, I liked the duck Bao I got at Kaya.
Thanks for this! I really liked Peter Salwen’s display at the NYPL. Has anyone seen if local shops carry the calendar for sale?
