News:
Celebrities including Hank Azaria are embroiled in a lawsuit over a fire at 75 Central Park West. “Azaria, who was once married actress Helen Hunt, says the fire caused $58,000 in damage.”
A French officer working with the country’s UN Mission used his free time to help nab a purse-snatcher in Central Park, authorities said. “Stephane Rocher, 41, was in the middle of his workout around the iconic park’s boat pond about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when he saw 17-year-old Mercutio Hart-Chu knock a 60-year-old woman to the ground near East Drive and E. 74th St. and run off with the woman’s purse.”
An apartment on West 72nd Street is one of many city gathering spots for Sufi Muslims. “Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam, has been cloaked in secrecy for most of its existence, having been forced underground by Ottoman rulers in the 13th century. Nowadays, however, many of these spiritual communities, like the beloveds in Mr. Latif’s apartment, are in plain view around the city if you know where to look. Some can even be found through a simple Google search.”
The Trump tombstone that was placed in Central Park this year is now on display at a Brooklyn gallery.
How Central Park protects its American Elms. “The tangle of branches welcomes you in despite the fence, offering a glimpse of another, more magical world, an overhead swirl of brown and green and blue far above the river of earthbound New Yorkers. In the distance, a few picnickers dot the base of one trunk, not having seen the signs or not knowing what they meant, or perhaps simply not caring.”
The fascinating history of the Sullivanians, “a 1970’s Upper West Side cult.” “The purpose of the group, as pitched to Sprecher and others, was to expand on the revolutionary promise of the 1960s. Members would find a social circle of likeminded people—mostly well-educated, secular, leftist, and Jewish—committed to a brand of psychotherapy imbued with radical politics and sexual liberation. ‘The therapists did not regard therapeutic boundaries with any respect at all,’ says Sprecher. ‘Everyone slept with everyone.'”
Surely there is some medal of decency and honor forthcoming for our guest from France?
Re: “17-year-old Mercutio Hart-Chu”
Wotta great name !
When this kid gets out of Rikers he may have a great career as an actor, but in two very limited roles.
Either in productions of Romeo & Juliet (check his given name) OR as “Sneezy” in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (check his surname)
?
Unlike the NYPD, French LE are a division of national military and as such keep in remarkable good physical shape.
This in contrast to NYPD officers who often look as if they haven’t missed a meal, and or would likely suffer angina pectoris if they ran one block.
we laugh over the idea of donut eating, beefy necked heavy, fat cops. but what’s with that? there’s no way they can do their job, when push comes to shove. are there no guidelines for body mass, or something?
Nope, nil, none, nada, zilch.
Recruits are tested at the academy but once they are on the force, that is that.
Years ago recall seeing on the news a group of *ahem* heavy NYPD officers chasing a suspect. The young kid was sprinting about a block ahead of several officers who where huffing and puffing trying to catch. In the end one of the officers ended up throwing his flashlight at the suspect.
To answer another question, we the taxpayers cover the costs of out of shape NYPD officers via disability payments.
I can recommend a series called Spiral.
You sound like a pretty tough guy.
Why don’t you share these comments with a NYPD cop?
Actually have said so as know quite a few NYPD.
There is a reason why there isn’t a NYPD counterpart to the famous FDNY calendar… *LOL*
