Oh Lord, when will the train arrive?
Thousands of New Yorkers were stuck on barely-moving trains Wednesday afternoon after an MTA power outage that led to delays every single subway line.
“The outage was first reported at about 1:17 p.m., and the MTA is currently using a backup power system. Trains are being dispatched locally, rather than remotely, which is what’s backing up trains across the city,” Gothamist reported.
As of about 4 p.m., regular service had resumed with some delays.
For those of you with long memories, July 13 might hold some resonance: it’s the date of the 1977 blackout that led to mass looting and property destruction in New York. Read an amazing story about how one Upper West Side store dealt with that night and its aftermath here.

Stretching with the reporting? I see it as a major IMPROVEMENT from the events of 1977 to today.
That was an amazing story!
It was brutal trying to get back home from Wall St. Waited endlessly for a 2/3 that never came then marched over to the C train at Fulton and hopped on an A only to be told it was being taken out of service. A C eventually showed up and half of New York piled on only to just sit there for half an hour being “held momentarily”. Finally took an Uber…at $22, it felt like a bargain.
I am happy to say that I have bought many appliances at this store over the years. Kudos to the Rubin family.
Auspicious?
