Multiple downtown train stations on the Upper West Side and in Morningside Heights will be skipped on weekends for the next month due to ongoing “track maintenance” work.
Downtown 1 trains will skip 125th Street, 116 St.-Columbia University, Cathedral Parkway (110th St.), and 103rd St. for the following weekends from around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday through 8 p.m. on Sunday.
- Sept. 19-20
- Sept. 26-27
- Oct. 3-4
- Oct. 10-11
For service to these stations, take the 1 train to 96th Street and then transfer to an uptown local train. The uptown 1 train will be running normally during this period.
The 1 train is not the only Upper West Side train that will experience service changes in the coming days.
For the entirety of September 19 through 20, downtown C trains in Manhattan will skip 116th St., 110th St., 103rd St., 96th St., 86th St., 81st St., and 72nd St., due to the MTA replacing the tracks in this stretch. As a reminder, the B train does not run on the weekends.

They should have done this work over the summer before school started.
Who has school on weekends from around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday through 8 p.m. on Sunday?
I don’t know about school, but as a person who works weekends, I know I have to leave extra early.
It would be nice if the uptown trains could be timed so that we don’t miss the downtown trains my seconds at 125th St, and have to wait 15 minutes for the next. The work has to get done some time, but for BOTH the 1 and the C to be unavailable at the same time at the same stations is rather strange planning.
This is a 24 hr city, and you can’t think only in terms of the M-F, 9-5 worker – or student! (A lot of us have done all we can to avoid that trap at all costs, and understand that, at times, allowing a lot of extra time for subway delays is one of those costs.)
Noone! The students stay locked in their dormrooms during that time. Custodial staff are all away at their Hamptons mansions.
Columbia students, researchers , employees commute and study every day.

Also, I’m guessing there will be a shuttle for those stations?
Nope. Options were take M104 to 96 st or take 1 train uptown to 137st to go downtown….
The signs are saying to go up to 168th Street. This would be the first stop with a crossover.
The booth people said 137th st but I’m guessing that’s for omny or 137th also allowed out of transfers due to the construction 🤷♀️

What happened today? At around 9am “unauthorized person on the track” at 110th Cathedral Parkway. Seemed like a complete mess, they asked everyone to leave 103rd after about a half hour wait.
So no C over the weekend of Global Citizen in Central Park on September 26th?
Will the M10 bus also be detoured?
And also “open streets” continuing on Amsterdam which means M11 detoured 106-120th?
And “open streets” resuming on Columbus forcing M7 and M11 bus detours?
The article says that the C will be out of commission on September 19 & 20.

Don’t forget! Any train you do manage to take on the 8th Ave line will be delayed/the slowest train possible due to repair work for The Crack at 81st :)))) love adding an extra 25+ min to my commute on the weekends
Wait what’s The Crack?
They need to run more M104 buses then. This is a major inconvenience.
This means that the M104 buses will be filled with riders from 125 and below riding down to 96 St for subway service. 😵💫
Well at least we’re getting into the nice weather period! Leave a bit of extra time and take a walk!

The MTA has skipped proper maintenance for decades . Money that should have been used for maintenance was given instead to subway workers in sweetheart deals.
