Like a 130-year-old doing a slow striptease, the Dakota is gradually uncovering its historic facade.
Va-Va-Voom!
The scaffolding that blocked views of the landmark on 72nd street and Central Park West for more than a year began to come down last week. The building has been undergoing roof and facade restoration. It has a scaffolding permit through next February.
Thanks to Dave Tannenhauser for the photo.
Looks great!!!
Still creepy
Looking good Dave, great shot! They really did a nice job.
Now that you mention it, I think a real 130-year-old doing s slow striptease would trump the Dakota as a top UWS tourist attraction.
If the doormen there had a nickel for every tourist who asked them about John Lennon or wanted a picture taken, those doormen could afford an apartment in the building!
Yes, but they would never get board approval.
Point!
Please please PLEASE take down the sidewalk shed on CPW between 72/73 ASAP. Too narrow for the stroller traffic (especially the stroller jockeys oblivious to their surroundings), corner is jammed by clueless tourists emerging from the subway, and on unlucky days you get a face full of porta-potty odor from the potties in the street for the workmen.
Speaking of scaffolding, the brownstones around the corner from Fairway on West 74th and the brownstones around the corner from Citarella on West 75th have had their scaffolding up for years with no apparent work going on. I have not seen anyone (tenants or workers) entering or exiting. Does anyone know what’s happening with these buildings?
Really great shot. Love how it’s framed by parking sign.
