Southern restaurant Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too on 110th street between Manhattan Avenue and Columbus was shuttered last week by the city Health Department after racking up several health violations, mostly for keeping food at improper temperatures.

The restaurant has won some strong reviews, even making it onto a Michelin list of the best “value” restaurants in the neighborhood.

Miss Mamie’s received 63 points worth of violations, which are listed below.

Sanitary Violations

1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
2) Food not cooled by an approved method whereby the internal product temperature is reduced from 140º F to 70º F or less within 2 hours, and from 70º F to 41º F or less within 4 additional hours.
3) Appropriately scaled metal stem-type thermometer or thermocouple not provided or used to evaluate temperatures of potentially hazardous foods during cooking, cooling, reheating and holding.
4) Insufficient or no refrigerated or hot holding equipment to keep potentially hazardous foods at required temperatures.
5) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.
6) Proper sanitization not provided for utensil ware washing operation.

Where are you from, Boy? That’s lard, not grease! Please never go to New Orleans, or you might “catch your death”.

I hope the open up again soon, this place is incredible and has been around for a long time. That little corner of Morningside-UWS-Manhattan Valley is the only slice of old NY left.

I don’t think most of our own kitchens would pass DoH inspection.

Oh, NO! Miss Mamie’s is a treasure! Her fried chicken is second only to mine and her smothered chicken beats mine! The Southern iced tea is to die for (sic). And the casual, relaxed, be with you honey servers are so sweet. I don’t really care about the degrees, the atmosphere at Miss Mamie’s is COOL.

O.M.G. .i really hope they open back hope, something probably went wrong cause of the heat that we’ve had in the past couple of weeks, you can tell they’ve been there for years , I have been eating there for years. Food is always great, no disappointment. The wait may take awhile but it’s worth it. The service with the waitstaff is faboulous , you have the tall guy an his co worker dark skin young lady , I’m not good with names but those two make to feel like you at home with family, they’ve been there forever.and are the greatest.COME BACK SPOONBREAD

Hey Katy Those wait staff you talking bout is crazy cool, they have jokes for days, my dad came in there he was pissed at something an the waitress Marlene had him smiling by the time we left, my dad left her a $20 tip an he nevers goes past $5,lol. The food is more than good.. Nerve wrecking when they out of stuff you want, but they always suggest a replacement, they have new ppl there too some Spanish chick, she’s cool but she’s just not with the Spoonbread flow, my wife has a crush on the big muscle guy, she don’t think I know, haha. But give Spoonbread a chance, everybody’s in titled to a mistake
