Yeah, we’re both amused and a little disturbed by this photo illustration…
It’s photo contest time, and even the West Side Rag’s signature newsboy is getting in on the act, strutting his stuff on the runway. The photos below are identified and numbered and you can vote for two of them in the poll below the photos. There are so so many wonderful shots, we’re amazed by the talent in this neighborhood. The poll will close at 4 p.m. EST, so vote and tell your friends to vote!
UPDATE: The contest is complete. The winners are (Drumroll please…) Sarah Boyd and Mike Noonan, numbers 41 and 40 respectively! So many of these photos were tremendous, and thanks to everyone who sent them in. Knowing how many talented photographers we have in the neighborhood, we’ll try to hold another one of these soon (sorry for the short voting period; we’ll make it longer next time).

#!2 and #40
You have to vote in the poll itself, we can’t tabulate it in the comments.
they are all very wonderful but I thought the 2 I voted for encompassed all the beauty of the UWS in recognizable places.
I love #21!

Hmm, it’s working for me, but maybe not on all platforms?
Number 2 is 2 adorable!
So many beautiful options!
# 2 is spring personified!
Beautiful photographs. However I couldn’t get that excited about the winter scenes. Maybe they could be reposted for a future contest?
# 21
Cool!!
Wonderful,memorable Central Park.
Love these photos – lots of love in detail for Central Park and Riverside Park. Number 16 is my favorite – a wow!
This was really hard because so many of these photographs are stunning but…
#12 because a hawk landed on my windowsill too, and #39 because it looks like a Monet painting.
Sarah Jane
Very hard to pick only 2 of these wonderful pictures. A great idea.

Not to be rude, but #41 is easily the worst looking photo on this page.. is this some kind of twitter joke or something?
So many comments, I thought I’d respond! I took a photo on my iPhone 6 while watching the sunset over the Hudson. This contest was calculated by sharing with your friends, not by a board of professional photographers. There were so many other fantastic photos, but by playing by the rules, and contacting my 1,600 Facebook friends alone, I was able to receive a fantastic amount of votes! If you are unhappy with the way the contest was conducted, I unfortunately can’t help with that. Congrats to all of the amazing photographers and photos out there! I <3 the UWS as much as you do.
The “winners” very likely defeated the minimal security in place to prevent multiple votes being cast from one machine, it is very easy to do.
Agreed. #41 is awful. How could it get so many votes?
not to mention that it is entirely void of “nature”. in any case, it was a fun contest and the contributions were mostly excellent. one thing i’m sure we can all agree on is that we certainly live amongst endless beauty.
I would have to agree, that is a low res cell phone camera that is completely blown out from the light on the left.

I like 26 and 10
Well, that was fun. And not because my picture didn’t win, but I don’t like contests where the vote determines the outcome as those with the most social media contacts inevitably win. Especially with a small voting window. That said, congratulations to the winners! I’d also like to give kudos to some photos that didn’t make it to the top, particularly numbers 33 and 38 34, 31, 30 and 27. Those close-up bird shots are really hard to capture. There are others I really like. Great job by all!

Wow!! All you guys are really, really, really talented. Thank you for sharing the great photos.
43 and 16. Great contest.
Vote for #41
Voting closed 12 hours ago and Sarah Boyd’s social media contacts are still blindly flooding the comments with support for her blurry cell-phone photo of a chair at sunset.

41 has literally nothing to do with nature.
All I see is human interference with nature, which defeats the purpose of the contest. The only person who didn’t follow directions and submitted a shot that doesn’t apply to the contest gets that many votes? And it’s not a particularly well-framed shot either. Sorry Sarah Boyd, but your win is quite suspect.
Oh this American life.
