UWS OPENINGS: NEW GYM, DRYBAR, DIPTYQUE, POSSIBLE NEW RESTAURANTS

Be Fit

Check out news below about a new gym, a blowout emporium, a perfume store, a medical office, and several potential restaurants.

A new gym called Be Fit opened this week on the second floor of 2726 Broadway, between 104th and 105th street. Be Fit NYC offers classes, personal training and fitness equipment.

drybar

Drybar, a chain that blow-dries women’s hair for $40, opened at 69 West 71st street this week. Apparently there are blowout parties where you drink and get blowouts. And also sudden flash mob dances. Everyone there seems to be happy and have bouncy hair. Photo by Joy Hernon. Thanks to Savett for the tip.

diptyque

Diptyque, a French perfume company, opened on the ground floor of the Time Warner Center. “Diptyque offers a selection of luxury scented candles and personal fragrances, as well as several body care products like bath oils and body butter – perfect for treating yourself to some great aromatherapy,” according to the Lincoln Square BID.

CityMD has opened on 69th and Broadway in the former home of Capital One, the BID also notes. We first wrote about that location here.

value city

A new drugstore called Value City is set to open on the East side of Broadway between 97th and 98th street, the former home of S&O Art Gallery. It’s just a short walk from Walgreens, so it could be tough competition, but maybe this will be the year when small pharmacies start to destroy the big chains. We’re not optimistic. Thanks to Elizabeth.

Community Board 7 released its list of new Upper West Side liquor license applications, which will get a hearing on January 14 at 7 p.m. at 250 West 87th street. One appears to be a replacement for Barrique on 70th street and another looks like it’s trying to reopen the old Hudson Beach cafe (something we had expected to happen last summer, but didn’t). We haven’t examined all of them yet, but let us know if you see anything interesting:

1.    33 West End Avenue (West 61st Street.) UNWINED, LLC, d/b/a To be Determined.
2.    Hudson Beach & West 105th Street, 106 Amsterdam Rest Corp, d/b/a To be Determined.
Two licenses: Street and Park Levels.
3.    929 Columbus Avenue (West 105th Street.) 929 Columbus Avenue, LLC, d/b/a To be Determined.
4.    103 West 70th Street (Columbus Avenue.) Bobby Munekata or Corp to be formed, d/b/a To be Determined, license includes ‘Outdoor Use’ (Yard).

This is interesting as no works were done to that place since it was closed

Whoawhoawhoa. You guys. On No. 4, Bobby Munekata is the owner of the highly regarded Totto Ramen. This could be yet another coup for the UWS.

Isn’t “106 Amsterdam Rest Corp” the Ellington? I seem to recall WSR writing previously about them getting the concession in Riverside Park.

Yes, I think it is. Hopefully we can get the Hudson beach spot back for this summer. I missed it last year.
