One day, your pets will flock to this space.
The Upper West Side is getting some new salons, another urgent care medical office, and a Halloween store. Meanwhile, a pet store will be getting a new lease on life.
The Pet Health Store is losing its lease at its current location at 81st and Amsterdam on October 31, but it has found a new home. It will set up shop at 473 Amsterdam Avenue (83d) the former home of The French Coast starting in October, a manager there told us. The new location is closer to the company’s warehouse. Thanks to Oren for the tip.
A pop-up Halloween shop called Spirit Halloween has opened in the former home of Blockbuster on Broadway and 94th. Thanks to Linda and Rob for the tips.
A salon called Fox & Jane opened recently on 83rd street and Columbus Avenue. It has another a location in the West Village. Thanks to Jessica for the tip.
Color Bar NYC is opening at 222 West 72nd street, the former home of Citi Habitats. Thanks to Linda for the tip.
CityMD is opening a new location sometime this year on 69th and Broadway apparently in the former home of Capital One bank, which closed a few months ago. That could create some competition for the Urgent Care office just one block away on Amsterdam and 69th. We’re curious: does one of these chains have a better reputation than the other? Thanks to Andrew for the tip.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I have actually been both to the Urgent Care Manhattan and another City MD stop a little more uptown. I have had especially great experiences at both. I have more experience at the Urgent Care Manhattan, and have only gone to City MD if UCM is closed (City MD is open later on some days, so I suppose that’s a perk). Again, nothing but positive things to say about both places! They both beat the heck out of waiting in a hospital’s ER.
They also both have really fantastic ratings on yelp. 🙂
I’ve been to City MD several times and have had great experiences each time. It’s clean, efficient, and the medical attention is as good, maybe even better than what one would get in a regular doctor’s office. They also have great hours and take insurance.
I have been to Urgent Care on 69th Street and Amsterdam Avenue a number of times and find them consistently knowledgable and caring. They offer a valuable service to the neighborhood and are cleaner, and faster than any emergency room I have been to in the city. Why would another emergency walk-in office open up so close to one that has been established in a neighborhood? There are many other areas of the city, even on the West Side, that could use this type of medical office.
In my recent experience, Urgent Care is more impressive than City MD regarding diagnostics.
It is unfortunate that these new medical clinics like CityMD don’t take any Affordable Care Act health insurance. They are convenient and efficient though. A doctor I spoke to at one of the clinics said they are working with insurance companies to include ACA insurance in the future.
Yes, I have the same issue…neither takes HealthFirst and I had previously used both of these clinics and had great experiences there. Hopefully they will add this carrier in the future.
I think it depends on what insurance company you have. I have a policy through the ACA and according to their website I can go to City MD offices under the plan.
So I am thrilled about the new location as I live near it. The other Urgent Care office on Amsterdam is not covered by my insurance so that’s a big difference between the two for me.
I’ve been to the City MD many times. No complaints. The wait has never been more than 10 minutes and doctors are always good. And being able to go in the evening is a huge plus.
There is another urgent care type place opening on Broadway around 103rd. It may be open now, haven’t been by in a few days. I think its called Cure Urgent Care
Walked past it last night, it is called Cure Urgent Care and is open now
Another Spirit Halloween pop up shop is setting up in the old Duane Reade on Bway between 83/84
Re: “We’re curious: does one of these chains have a better reputation than the other?”
Probably not, but since they’re literally a block apart what a great way to “get a second opinion” !!
remember:
MD: I’m sorry, Ma’am, but you have a serious and inoperable condition!
Patient: Oh-my-gosh, can’t I get a second opinion?
MD: Certainly: you also have terrible taste in fashion!
(rim-shot!)
Was at CityMD at 88th & Bway last week and was 100% satisfied. Went because regular othopedist wasn’t available and both his office and pediatrician’s recommended CityMD.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but there’s a new wine shop on B’way and 105th. Opened last week.
I saw it as well. It looks very nice. Significantly nice than the one that opened a block south.
And the medical care there is better than anywhere else, too!
My one time at City MD, the doc screwed up a minor procedure (lancing a big paronychia, or finger infection). However I agree that they are convenient.
Glad to see that the Pet Health Store will not be going to way of so many other businesses on the UWS such as Big Nicks and Niko’s.
One thing I continue to lament is the loss of stores that add to the uniqueness and character of a neighborhood.
So Mazel Tov!!
I just had to use the new Cure Urgent Care on 103rd st and they were fantastic. Fast, thorough and had an x-ray machine on site–which was exactly what I needed. The place was very clean. Not that I’ve been to a grungy urgent care site yet, but this was a whole new level of immaculate.
