Election Day is this Tuesday, November 5 and there are four candidates squaring off in the race to represent the Upper West Side in the City Council.
Helen Rosenthal is the frontrunner after winning the Democratic primary in September, but she’ll have to face off again with Marc Landis, one of her top opponents from the primary who will be running on the Working Families Party line. Also on the ballot will be Green candidate Tom Siracuse and Republican Harry DeMell.
The election has been pretty quiet since the primary ended, probably because most people expect the Democratic primary winner to also win the general election. Landis’ candidacy could throw a bit of a wrench in that, as he’s been supported by Jerry Nadler and some other top local Democrats. Click here to read answers from Rosenthal, Landis and Siracuse to a variety of questions we asked about neighborhood issues.
We haven’t been able to reach DeMell, an immigration lawyer, despite reaching out to local and citywide Republican officials. He has no website or other promotional material that we’ve seen. He made a statement on MNN television about why he’s running, talking about keeping the city from sliding back into the bad old days. We posted his video below, along with the statements of the other candidates.
There are also some ballot initiatives you can read about here before you vote.
These photos make them all look like thugs! Makes it hard to imagine having any of them represent us.
Don’t worry, they won’t represent us. Especially if you live near 94th-95th St. and watch the neighborhood turn into nothing but homeless shelters.
