Sandwich shop Lenny’s on 98th street and Broadway filled with fire and smoke on Tuesday morning after a bagel boiler ignited in the basement at around 7:55 a.m. The building was evacuated and about 60 firefighters showed up to put it out. They gave the all-clear at 9:20 a.m., DNAinfo reported. No one was reported injured.
Jamie, who took the photo above, said that people were back inside the restaurant by later this morning. When told it was the bagel boiler, she wrote: “Aw man. We love their bagels. Hopefully it will be back up and running soon.”
Multiple fire trucks @ 98th & bway. More on the way. Glad @FDNY is on the job. Hope everyone’s ok. #UWS pic.twitter.com/1iwd694SGZ

Best wishes for Lenny’s speedy recovery!
The Lenny’s management should take this as a sign to refurbish the space. Bagles are delicious but the grime on the walls, tiles and lighting can sometimes turn your stomach.
