UPPER WEST SIDERS HELPED KIDS HIT HARD BY HURRICANE SANDY

Upper West Siders were particularly generous this year to children impacted by Hurricane Sandy on Staten Island.

Stationery & Toy Store at 125 West 72nd Street, whose owners sustained major damage to their Staten Island home and warehouses because of the hurricane, held a toy drive for kids impacted by the hurricane, and then gave the kids the toys at a special event at the St. George Theater on Staten Island. Their goal was to collect 500 toys, but they ended up getting more than 1,000. Also, so many Upper West Siders came out to support the store itself that the owners surpassed their goals.  Check out the thank you note pasted to their window:

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
