Washington Wizards center Emeka Okafor recently bought an apartment on the Upper West Side, says the New York Post. This comes after Jason Kidd bought a place here, and Tyson Chandler rented a place in the Rushmore. Yes, the Upper West Side is now where all the ballers hang out, and not just the ones who work at Goldman Sachs. We’ve heard of multiple sitings of other Knicks players at movies and elsewhere (one was seen at a screening of Les Miserables, but our tipster couldn’t remember his name.) And yet, I never see any of them at the Riverside Park courts when I’m shooting hoops…
One reason the Columbus Avenue bike lane proposal won approval from a community board committee: the DOT added back 25 parking spaces to the plan and gave some businesses new loading zones. In total, 36 spaces will be eliminated. Those loading zones will be available for regular cars at nights and on the weekends. The “added” spaces were mostly created by eliminating rush hour restrictions above 96th Street: “The DOT said …it would eliminate rush hour regulations prohibiting parking north of 96th Street along Columbus Avenue to 110th Street, which Benson said would amount to a gain of 105 spaces.” (DNAinfo)
Opening night at Cafe Tallulah had some unexpected flair, the restaurant said via facebook: “Jeremy Stolle, who is the lead in Phantom of the Opera, dropped by around midnight after the show with some friends, and after we turned down the music, he sang ‘O Sole Mio,’ at the end of which the 75 or so people who were still there gave him a standing ovation.”
