A benefit concert to fight global poverty is scheduled for September 29 on the Great Lawn in Central Park.
The free concert will feature Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Foo Fighters, the Black Keys and K’naan. But to get a ticket you have to sign up at a new website called Global Citizen that asks you to complete certain tasks, from donating money to causes to learning about issues. Once you complete the tasks, you are entered into a lottery to win tickets. It’s a way to raise money while still playing a free concert — a rule for any bands that want to play on the Great Lawn.
“The standard model for this kind of event is you sell a ticket through Ticketmaster for $60 or $70 and a portion of that goes to charity,” Global Poverty Project co-founder Hugh Evans told Rolling Stone. “We wanted Global Festival to be about action, not money. By thinking different about how we distribute tickets, we’re building a movement.”
