David Longshore, who was mugged earlier this year at 108th and Broadway, tells us that the police still haven’t found the three men who beat him up, but that the city has listened to his request for better lighting at the corner. “In April, I had written to the NYCDOT, requesting that the street lighting be improved on the corner of 108th Street and Broadway. Yesterday, I received the following response from Manhattan Borough Commissioner Margaret Forgione: ‘…the Division of Street Lighting has informed me that they will install an arm and luminaire to an existing traffic signal pole on the southwest corner of Broadway in the direction of 108th Street. The installation will take place during the first quarter of 2013.'”

Re: the poor lighting on 108th street and Broadway … They’re going to install a new light during the first quarter of 2013!???!! That’s half a year away at best! That hardly sounds satisfactory. That corner is notoriously dark. I wish something could be done sooner. It’s just a light, for pete’s sake!
this is exactly the sh&% why I hate this city
Great point e.m. Maybe more community pressure could convince them to do it sooner.
