DJs performing in the middle of a museum’s planetary exhibit space could only mean one thing – the American Museum of Natural History’s monthly music series “One Step Beyond” is back in full effect.
This season’s series kicked-off with two amazing DJs: Bonobo and Nickodemus; spinning their funky and sometimes gallactic-inspired mixes in the Rose Center for Earth and Space. The party continues on Friday with DJ RJD2.
When you enter into the expansive area, you feel a sense of relief at how much elbow room you have to walk around, to check out the exhibits while listening to the music. On the stage, a backdrop of visuals glows brightly behind the DJs in the otherwise dimly-lit room. Once down in the main area, you can buy beer and wine by purchasing drink tickets from kiosks located in a few locations close to the bar area. You can also hang out throughout the planetarium during most of the performance.
To get to the party, enter through the Weston Pavilion at Columbus and 79th Street, and walk down to the main performance area or choose to watch from above. Tickets are $25 and you must be 21 or over.
