A new cafe with a unique twist has just opened at 120 Riverside Boulevard near 66th Street. Blu Cafe is a combination real estate office/cafe, with a glass partition separating the coffee area run by a company called Tavalon from the real estate area. The cafe also offers wifi access, so you can sit by yourself and search apartments, and then tap someone on the shoulder when you’ve found something you like. Brave new world, right?
The cafe also seems designed to achieve another goal: it brings a little life to an area that can seem a little bit dead.
In fact, a manager at the cafe was pretty candid with the Epoch Times about the area:
“Everyone has been telling us that they nicknamed [this area] the ‘Death Valley’ because there’s nothing around here,” said Melissa Allerton, the general manager for Blu Cafe. “There’s absolutely no options for them, they have to go to West End, etcetera, so right here, it’s just super convenient.”
Of course, that’s exactly the sort of thing that would normally get someone in real estate in trouble: Can I interest you in this gorgeous apartment in the heart of “Death Valley.” Maybe this whole cafe/real estate office thing is a little awkward after all.
