Jumbo Pizza Coffee Shop may be a tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but it certainly is harboring a lot of small critters, according to a health inspector who visited the place this week. The coffee shop on 964 Amsterdam Avenue between 107th and 108th Streets racked up 61 violation points in an inspection on Monday after accumulating 41 points in a September 1 inspection. The health department closed the restaurant after the inspection.

Sanitary Violations
1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38º F) except during necessary preparation.
2) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
3) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
4) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
5) Personal cleanliness inadequate. Outer garment soiled with possible contaminant. Effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared.
6) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
7) Sanitized equipment or utensil, including in-use food dispensing utensil, improperly used or stored.
8 ) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
9) Single service item reused, improperly stored, dispensed; not used when required.
Just so you know, Jumbo’s reopened since. No word yet on how much they cleaned up inside, though.
