Even if you don’t need to go anywhere today, it might be worth hopping on the B or C train from 86th Street just for this unique experience: you can actually ride the New York City subway for FREE!
The New York Times reports that the turnstiles are broken and have been roped off so people are just walking right through and climbing onto the trains, which have been arriving regularly. The 1, 2 and 3 have also been pretty regular.
Thanks Hurricane Irene! (Of course I’m sure we’ll be paying for this with fare increases in 6 months.)
Photo of Mayor Bloomberg on the 6 train this morning, tweeted by the mayor himself. You can bet he paid the full fare.
Does your subway tickets cost so much that a free passage calls so much joy 🙂 Could you explain how broken turnstiles are connected with a hurricane?
