Cornelis Verwaal says he was hiking through Central Park, which was officially closed, immediately after Hurricane Irene hit on Sunday when he came across the scene above at Bethesda Terrace.
“The Central Park Lake flooded Bethesda Terrace during hurricane Irene. Although the park was still officially closed, we took a 4 hour hike through it and were happy to see there was no major damage. Here and there some tree limbs down, and we saw a few trees down, but nothing serious. I’m very happy.”
“[T]here were a few people checking out the scene, including the man who found this dry perch to relax on and make a phone call.”

Whom was he calling? and what did he need to say at that moment?
Wonderful contrast of human – nature and perfect in black and white.
