SUSHI PIZZA MASHUP! GEISHA AND SERAFINA TO SHARE 77TH STREET SPACE

Heralded Upper East Side sushi restaurant Geisha is planning to set up an Upper West Side outpost on the Southeast corner of 77th Street and Broadway this winter. That space, which used to house Tom Valenti’s The West Branch, will also house pizza-maker extraordinaire Serafina.

Geisha is part-owned by the same people who own the Serafina chain.

Geisha has already launched a website for the Upper West Side spot, and it says the new restaurant will have an open kitchen and a constantly changing menu.

“In the open kitchen at GSB, the Chefs of Geisha will be serving a daily changing menu including our renowned sushi, charred yakitory, and crisp tempura in a fun, relaxed and intimate setting. GSB will also have a list of hand selected sakes and beers from the best breweries of Japan.”

Our tipster Ryan, who sent in the above photo, is pretty psyched about the new spot: “Their current spot on the East Side is a fantastic sushi restaurant – very trendy with super-fresh fish!”

No word yet on the opening date.

Update: A previous version of this post said incorrectly that Serafina would not be opening. The managers straightened us out on that by sending us a twitter message.

If you walk around the corner, you’ll see that there are still Serafina signs on the Broadway side of the store. My guess is that both Serafina and Geisha are going into the space (it’s pretty big).

Retail space is being split between both chains. Serafina sign is on the other side of the pic!

Never again! I was accused of stealing a glass of wine ($14) and told by the thuggish manager that they had evidence of my having a secnd glass of wine on their security camera but that I couldn’t review it due to privacy reasons. The most unpleasant restaurant experience I’ve ever had.
