August 22, 2011 Weather: Sunny, High of 81 Degrees.

Notices:
This week, get ready for an outdoor film series in Central Park dedicated to films about music, a free screening of the Motorcycle Diaries, and the two year anniversary of Whole Foods in Columbus Square, along with tons of other neighborhood events on our calendar.

News:
A red-tailed hawk flew into the open window of an apartment on West 80th Street, and flew through the building’s halls, coming to rest in front of Joe Moderski’s doorway. Moderski was absent-mindedly checking his mail when he suddenly came upon it. “I thought I missed a pillow fight in the hallway or something,” he said. “There were feathers everywhere.” Police officers at first tried to lure the hawk with bread crumbs but that failed. Once they captured it, they took the injured hawk to Animal Care & Control. (NY Daily News)

The old-fashioned website for the movie “You’ve Got Mail” is still up (web design circa 1998), along with a tour of the Upper West Side. (Gothamist)

The battle to unionize the Central Park Boathouse is getting nasty, with owner Dean Poll even banishing his own cousin after she joined the union, according to her. (NY Daily News)
