A police car crashed into the back of a school bus Wednesday afternoon on the Upper West Side, according to people at the scene and photos.

The collision happened around 3 p.m. at West 68th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

“I didn’t see the collision, but a cop told me the unit was on their way to an emergency,” Daniel Hank, who snapped the photos, told West Side Rag about what had happened. “The response to this was 3 fire trucks, 2 ambulances, and 4 more police cars. All but one lane of Amsterdam was closed due to the response.”

Hank added that the school bus appeared to be empty at the time of collision.

West Side Rag reached out to FDNY for more information about what happened, including the well-being of the officers driving the vehicle, but we have not yet heard back.

Whose NYPD would you like? I’m guessing – no NYPD?

What on God’s great earth does this have to do with the Commissioner or the NYPD in general? Why are you making it political?

Wow, the first four comments here, and not one is regarding the health and safety of the officers and children involved. So sad what’s happened to us. . .

According to the article, there were no children on the bus at the time. That said, you are correct about the officers, and the potential of this HAD there been children involved.

Oviously, I’m glad the school bus was empty. But even if it hadn’t been, I’m glad they build them sturdy enough to withstand this kind of impact: the bus looks almost untouched while the squad car is nearly totalled.

Glad we managed to get the entire UWS civil services units involved. Good work boys!
